Subject: Resolution establishing "Summer Food Service Program for Children 2005"
Purpose of Item:
To establish a new special revenue fund entitled "Summer Food Service Program for Children 2005",
appropriate funds in an amount not to exceed $573,894, and authorize the City Manager to accept the
grant award from the United States Department of Agriculture, through the Florida Department of
Education; further authorizing the City Manager to execute an agreement with the School Board of
Miami Dade County for the provision of lunches and snacks to the participants in an amount not to
exceed $500,000.
Background Information:
Every summer, the City of Miami Department of Parks and Recreation sponsors a Summer Food
Service Program for children which provides nutritional meals and snacks in conjunction with its
comprehensive recreational program. The United States Department of Agriculture, through the
Florida Department of Education, provides funding on a reimbursement basis to cover the costs of
food, staff, transportation, etc.
