Summer Food Service Program For Children
The City of Miami Parks And Recreation Department once again will be participating in the
Summer Food Service Program for Children during the months June 6, 2005 through July 22,
2005 at designated City Parks. All children 18 years old and younger, at open sites are eligible for
meals at no charge and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meals service. The
programs are only approved for geographical areas of need where 50 percent or more of the
children qualify for free and reduced price meals during the school year. This program is made
possible through a grant from the State of Florida Department of Education, Food and Nutrition
Management Division.
Similar to the National School Lunch Program, the Summer Food Program, Food for Children
provides balanced meals to needy children, regardless of race, color, sex, age, or national origin or
disability.
Regular balance nutritionally meals are offered during the summer vacation, when regular
lunches are not available. All youths through 18 years of age, including those enrolled in the Parks
Department's Summer Program, are eligible for free lunch and an afternoon supplement.
