HomeMy WebLinkAboutcity of miamiNews Release CitvofM1ami City of Miami Department of Parks And Recreation Sponsors Summer Food Service Program For Children The City of Miami Parks And Recreation Department once again will be participating in the Summer Food Service Program for Children during the months June 6, 2005 through July 22, 2005 at designated City Parks. All children 18 years old and younger, at open sites are eligible for meals at no charge and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meals service. The programs are only approved for geographical areas of need where 50 percent or more of the children qualify for free and reduced price meals during the school year. This program is made possible through a grant from the State of Florida Department of Education, Food and Nutrition Management Division. Similar to the National School Lunch Program, the Summer Food Program, Food for Children provides balanced meals to needy children, regardless of race, color, sex, age, or national origin or disability. Regular balance nutritionally meals are offered during the summer vacation, when regular lunches are not available. All youths through 18 years of age, including those enrolled in the Parks Department's Summer Program, are eligible for free lunch and an afternoon supplement.
