HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-05-0254City of Miami Legislation Resolution of Condolence: R-05-0254 City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com File Number: 05-00359 Final Action Date: 4/14/2005 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION EXPRESSING DEEPEST SYMPATHY AND SINCEREST CONDOLENCES ON BEHALF OF THE CITY OF MIAMI AND ITS CITIZENS TO THE FAMILY AND FRIENDS OF FATHER ANGEL VILLARONGA UPON HIS UNTIMELY DEATH. WHEREAS, the City of Miami, out of a deep and abiding respect for life, values the wonder of the human spirit that brings into being the bountiful joys of God's Grace; and WHEREAS, Father Angel Villaronga, Spiritual Director of Movimiento Familiar Cristiano Casa Cana and founder of Centro Hispano Daycare Center, was born in Cuba and came to the United States in 1961; and WHEREAS, Father Angel Villaronga, whose Ministry included service at Gesu Church in Downtown Miami, became a well-known radio personality who combined courage and compassion in his mission to elevate the quality of life in South Florida, working to mentor married couples and to rid our community of poverty, opening our hearts, minds, ears and eyes to the power of a compassionate people in addressing issues of homelessness, family unity and the consequences of neglect; and WHEREAS, this passion for the greatness of the human spirit was realized through Father Villaronga's outstanding leadership among the local parishes where his work was glorified by his strong commitment to nurturing the lives of young people of the greater Miami community, urging them and their parents toward the beauty and calm of reciprocity and service; and WHEREAS, Father Angel Villaronga, who spent many, many hours making miracles happen and celebrating the bonds of love and redemption that are the gifts of an unwavering Faith in God, died on Tuesday, April 12, 2005, leaving a compellingly powerful legacy in parishioners, family, friends and good works, an inheritance shared by many through his righteous example of giving back to the community as a fighter for people; NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The authorities of the City of Miami, in the State of Florida, on behalf of our citizens, pause in our official deliberations to express solemn remorse and deepest sympathy to bereaved family, colleagues and friends and record for posterity this tribute to the memory of Father Villaronga, a caring and thoughtful man whose passion for human dignity represents the seed we must nurture and praise, for, in honoring that seed, we revere the best in ourselves and reclaim, thereby, for all posterity the special anointing of an esteemed humanitarian, Father Angel Villaronga. Section 2.
