HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-05-0225City of Miami Legislation Resolution: R-05-0225 City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com File Number: 05-00351 Final Action Date: 4/14/2005 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION ESTABLISHING A NEW SPECIAL REVENUE FUND ENTITLED: "SUPPORTIVE SERVICES TO MARIEL DETAINEES" AND APPROPRIATING FUNDS FOR OUTREACH, ASSESSMENT, INFORMATION, REFERRAL AND HOUSING ASSISTANCE TO QUALIFIED MARIEL REFUGEES BEING RELEASED FROM FEDERAL DETENTION, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $225,474, CONSISTING OF A GRANT AWARD FROM THE STATE OF FLORIDA REFUGEE SERVICES PROGRAM THROUGH SOUTH FLORIDA WORKFORCE; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ACCEPT SAID GRANT AWARD FROM THE STATE OF FLORIDA REFUGEE SERVICES PROGRAM AND TO EXECUTE ANY DOCUMENTS NECESSARY, TO IMPLEMENT ACCEPTANCE OF SAID GRANT AWARD. WHEREAS, on January 15, 2005, the Supreme Court of the United States of America ruled that Mariel refugees could no longer be detained indefinitely and ordered their immediate release; and WHEREAS, the Miami Homeless Assistance Program provides outreach, assessment, information and referral, transportation and housing assistance to the homeless citizens of the City of Miami ("City"); and WHEREAS, the City wishes to provide housing services to Mariel detainees being released from Federal detention; and WHEREAS, the State of Florida Refugee Services Program has allocated funds to provide said services to the South Florida Workforce; and WHEREAS, the South Florida Workforce wishes to enter into a Memorandum of Understanding with the City's Homeless Program to provide said services; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The following new Special Revenue Fund is established and resources are appropriated as described herein: City of Miami Page 1 of 2 File Id: 05-00351 (Version: 1) Printed On: 11/8/2016 File Number: 05-00351 Enactment Number: R-05-0225 FUND TITLE: Supportive Services to Mariel Detainees RESOURCES: State of Florida Refugee Services Program through the South Florida Workforce APPROPRIATION: $225,474 Outreach, assessment, information, referral, transportation and housing assistance to Mariel $225,474 refugees being released from Federal detention Section 3. The City Manager is authorized{1} to accept said grant award from the State of Florida Refugee Services Program and to execute any documents necessary, to implement acceptance of said grant award. Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor.{2} Footnotes: {1} The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be imposed by the City Attorney, including but not limited to those prescribed by applicable City Charter and Code provisions. {2} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
