We believe that quicker emergency care for cardiac arrest victims could save up to 50,000 lives a year. With over 2.1 million residents, Miami -.Dade County is a prime target for the American Heart Association's focus of implementing Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs j. The American Heart Association does not stand alone in our mission for county -wide AED deployment. Several partners in the community include, University of Miami Center for .Research in Medical Education, Miami -Dade County Health Department, Baptist Health Systems, Coral Gables Fire Department, and Hialeah Fire Department. The City of Miami Fire Rescue and Miami -Dade County Fire Rescue are the ideal partners to roll out a comprehensive AED program. With the support of the medical directors of both systems, Dr. Kathy Shrank and Dr. Donald Rosenberg, the quality of the AED program will serve as a model for other Florida cities. It has been an honor to work with the City of Miami Fire Rescue and Miami -Dade Fire Rescue over the past years to achieve our common goal of increasing public access defibrillation programs. The American Heart Association looks forward to working closely with the proposed AED project in the city and county. The American Heart Association would like to offer any support we can provide in order to secure funding to increase the availability of a quality AED program, which will ultimately save the lives of countless Miami resident.
