The Miami Art Museum is at the very center of one of the world's most vibrant cities, bringing
international art to life through world -class exhibitions, programs and collecting. MAM is a
welcoming place that stimulates the imagination and inspires new ways of seeing and
thinking. A legacy for future generations, MAM will bring concrete economic benefits to the
Miami -Dade community estimated at $650 million over the first decade, with 575 full-time
jobs.
Program Overview
At Museum Park Miami, MAM will welcome residents and visitors with a many -faceted
experience. As a 21 st-century art museum, MAM will serve as a gathering place for people to
meet, share and learn. MAM will offer stimulating activities, film screenings and inspiring
exhibitions that broaden our view of our culture and ourselves. MAM will have a landmark
building and sculpture park designed by leading architects selected through an international
competition.
Exhibition Spaces
MAM's building will be constructed in two phases. The first phase will include a 150,000-
square-foot facility designed to bring art and the public together in a hospitable setting with
spectacular views of Biscayne Bay. MAM will have an inviting entranceway providing easy
access to all visitors and school groups. More than 50,000-square-feet will be dedicated 10 a
suite of handsomely proportioned galleries showcasing artwork from around the world, Miami
and Florida through MAM's special exhibitions and permanent collection. State-of-the-art
lighting will provide optimum viewing for MAM's public. Galleries will be linked with spaces
for visitors to rest and enjoy views of the park and bay.
Sculpture Park
MAM's sculpture park, planned by a renowned landscape architect, will highlight Miami -Dade
County's unique climate, plants and geography. Visitors of all ages will enjoy this 4-acre
public park filled with notable sculptures created by masters of 20th-and 21 st-century art.
Education, Ancillary and Support Spaces
MAM's commitment to life-long learning will shape the functions of another 50,000-square-
feet of the new building. Reflecting MAM's exceptional public programming, educational
facilities will include an auditorium for lectures, films and concerts. There will be workshops
for hands-on activities, high-tech classrooms, interactive visitors' centers with learning
stations, a family activity center and a resource library for teachers and artists.
MAM will have leading -edge workshops for the preparation, care and conservation of works
of art in traditional as well as new media. MAM will also have spaces for building
maintenance, security, exhibition design and program planning that follow international best
practice for top -ranked art museums.
A cafe and restaurant, a bookstore, and a dramatic lobby for community gatherings will bring
diverse visitors and year-round activity to MAM and Museum Park Miami, fueling the
revitalization of this now abandoned park as well as downtown Miami and the surrounding
neighborhoods of Park West and Overtown.
