The total number of trash trucks in our fleet is 42 and the department requires a minimum of 36 snicks for their daily collection ape cation (18 cranes and 36 trash trucks). On any given day the the equipment status for trash trucks vary between 32-36 trucks to provide asrvice city wide and very rarely era there any spares available, This dilemma alone creates a constant streirt on the daily operation reladve to deployment of equipment, The average availabiliity of trash trucks for FY`O4 relative to down time and garage repairs has been 75 - 80%. This equipment purchase is desperately needed and will be used by the Operations Division of the department for the required collection of voluminous tons of trash and debris generated by the daily trash collection activities city wide. Additionally, this equipment will also be utilized for any other required needs restive to the collection and/or delivery of oversized trash items such as tree cattings, mulch and/or U. It is in this vain that the PY'05 fleet replacement program for the department is essential to our progressive move toward becoming a more efficient department.
