PROPOSED PRACTICAL EVALUATION (FIELD TEST) PROTOCOLS
Thermal Imaging Cameras submitted will be evaluated on the following:
1. Ability to carry on person without hands (neckstrap)
2. Ability to be used while crawling
3. Ease of changing battery(s) in field
4. Ease of viewing with Scott AV3000 mask
5. Ease of use of on/off button with Firefighter gloves on
6. Ensure that power button does not accidentally shut off in use
7. Weight of camera during prolonged use
8. Ability to work while being splashed with water fog(fire streams)
9. Quality of image in homogenous temperature environment(air conditioned room)
10. Quality of image in slightly elevated temperature environment (1 minute heating of
compartment with torch)
11, Quality of image in hot temperature environment
12. Ability to resist/prevent image white out in hot fires
13. Recharger size and functionability in SFRD apparatus cabs
14. Type of batteries (smart, litium, non -memory)
15. Type of servicing on unit (turn around time, loaner, etc.)
16. Ease of use during operations
17. Quality of image when looking at liquid level in 20 LB propane tank
The following exercises will be performed:
1. Firefighter's will take thermal imager camera into maze and perform a search for a victim
2. Firefighter's will utilize imager in flashover simulator with actual fire conditions
3. Firefighter's will use imager as part of a hose team
4, Firefighter's change battery out and restart thermal camera in building
5, Firefighter's will change battery out and restart thermal camera in building
6. Firefighter's will view a 20 LB propane tank while wearing the SCBA mask
