Pinellas County Prepares For
Hurricane Frances
As Hurricane Frances continued to veer
away from Pinellas County with each
advisory on September 3, Pinellas County
officials began planning how to assist in
mutual aid efforts to help other counties
that will be affected. After Hurricane
Charley struck Port Charlotte on August
13, Pinellas County Emergency
Management Director Gary Vickers
visited Charlotte County to assess the
damage and coordinate needed aid. With
Hurricane Frances' landfall and impact
still a question mark, efforts are under
way to monitor what will be needed on the
state's east coast. Pinellas County
residents opened their hearts and wallets
to relief efforts through the American Red
Cross and other organizations to help
Charley victims, but additional help will be
needed after Frances, too.
