SUBMITTED INTO THE PUBLIC RECORD FOR ITEM vR.1 ONt-m-os. SH SWITCH HITTER BASEBALL INC. Submitted into the public record in connection with item _A-t on e Priscilla A. Thompson City Clerk City of Miami Commissioners Board of Director Meeting November 17, 2005 Switch Hitter Baseball Inc. is requesting to discuss possible solutions to the shortage of green space for the use of athletics and recreation. The budget for the Police Department and the Corrections Department grows yet Departments that assist in preventing crime and violence are not taken seriously. Invest more in the City of Miami Recreation and Parks Department. Focus on developing existing programs that have demonstrated success, Optimist Football, basketball and cheerleading at Jose Marti. Assist private programs like Switch Hitters Baseball Inc. that have demonstrated success in supporting the youth within the community. Engage the youth of the City of Miami in order to prevent crime. II. The Park and Recreation Department and the City of Miami Commisioners need to develop relationships with the school in their district. District III, Commissioner Joe Sanchez has done this with Principal Victor Lopez of Miami Senior High School. Because of this relationship between the City and the school the Switch Hitter Baseball program exists and practices at school field. At the present time there are several schools within the city that have large fields and they are empty and undeveloped, example Comstock Elementary. a3 r1/4'Sr /OW i ff% 11E There should be a partnership between the principals and the City of Miami to develop more fields for after school use. The City of Miami can commit to assisting in the development and maintenance of the school field. Presently, Mr. Lopez and Switch Hitter Baseball would like to request financial assistance from the City of Miami to provide lights for the school field. Day Light Savings time cuts the use of the field dramatically. Field Lights would resolve this problem. III. Request the use of abandon or empty lots for athletic training. - Optimist football training, baseball catching and pitching, soccer training. - Large lots of land are not needed for practices. Drills and the teaching of fundamentals can be done on smaller spaces. - Address: 7 s r ,u•
