HomeMy WebLinkAboutRecommendation MemoCITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA INTER -OFFICE MEMORANDUM TO : FROM : The Honorable May+ s Members Ofe City Com . ission , Joe riola City eager DATE : SUBJECT : REFERENCES: ENCLOSURES: July 14, 2005 Variance to Noise Ordinance "South Beach" FILE : RECOMMENDATION It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission grant Paramount Pictures, in association with Jennifer Lopez and UPN, their request for a waiver of the City of Miami noise ordinance. The purpose of this waiver is to facilitate the filming of the TV Show, "South Beach," which will be shooting in our area from August 15th, 2005 through January 15th, 2006. BACKGROUND "South Beach," as the name suggests, will be based in Miami and will star Vanessa Williams. The show, an hour long drama, similar to the "O.C" in style, will be filming 12 episodes with Miami as its backdrop. The length of the project is a great indicator of the impact this production will have on local job creation, in addition to the promotion of Miami to a national audience. A blanket waiver is customary for the filming of large productions in the City of Miami since locations and shooting dates wary widely and are scheduled in such a manner that it would be impractical and nearly impossible to come before the Commission for each and every waiver request. The production company anticipates filming up to 12 nights in the time period requested. Upon approval of the City Commission, the production company will proceed with the usual permitting process, as specific locations are needed, with the Mayor's Office of Film, Arts & Entertainment. The Mayor's Office of Film, Arts & Entertainment will ensure that all affected residents, city agencies, commercial businesses, and/or civic organizations are fully aware of the scheduled filming in their area and that every step is taken to ensure that filming activity will cause minimal disruption to the community.
