It is populated by more than 362,000 residents. Their police department has made significant strides n the services they have provided to it$ community. Currently, the department is attempting to improve their Records Unit. According to staff amongst the larger police departments in the county, they are one of few who have not automated anc increase the level of efficiency its Records Unit. Cross training their clerks and decreasing their bast' log reporting, will be an initial strategy of improving their day to day functioning. Program Description In the current yea, the department will create an organized system of record management. Thi: system will provide a smooth process for recording and accessing criminal justice information. Clerk will work overtime to input data in the department record system (CARE). These statistics are the used to publish crime rates and trends which are then used to determine the allocation of resource Specifically, staff will cross train all personnel in the Records Unit during the upcoming yea Commanding personnel will supervise and train all employees. Once trained, staff will serve as backu when other key persons are absent from work. The second part for this program will support overtirr hours for clerks who will eliminate the current backlog of reports to be entered in the CARE system.
