HomeMy WebLinkAboutSummary Fact SheetPOLICE AGENDA ITEM SUMMARY FACT SHEET SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICER PROJECT JUSTIFICATION: The grant received from Miami -Dade County is to be utilized for truancy sweeps, teambuilding and problem solving among our City's youth. Truancy -- involving youth who attend public middle schools and high schools -- is one of the department's concerns, together with a continuous concern to ensure the safety of all our City's school children 31m- HOW IS THIS ITEM GOING TO ENHANCE THE QUALITY OF SERVICE TO THE CUSTOMER / CITIZENS? Through this program, the Community Relations Section will continue its efforts in the Resisting Aggression Defensively Program (RADKids) in approximately ten (10) of the City's elementary schools. School Resource Officers will increase the number of truancy sweeps during the grant year; they will provide crime prevention educational classes to all targeted schools; and will require all truants to participate in monthly diversionary activities, as well as anti -crime prevention sessions together with their parents.
