A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION ESTABLISHING A NEW
SPECIAL REVENUE FUND ENTITLED: "MIAMI'S LEARNING ZONE GRANT
AWARD" FOR FUNDING THE 21ST CENTURY COMMUNITY LEARNING CENTER
PROGRAM AT HOLMES ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, LOCATED AT 1175
NORTHWEST 67TH STREET, MIAMI, FLORIDA; APPROPRIATING FUNDS IN
THE AMOUNT OF $38,750, CONSISTING OF A GRANT FROM THE FLORI.DA
DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO
ACCEPT SAID GRANT AWARD AND TO EXECUTE THE NECESSARY
DOCUMENT(S), TO IMPLEMENT ACCEPTANCE OF SAID GRANT.
WHEREAS, the City of Miami has been awarded a grant, in the amount of $38,750, from the
Florida Department of Education ("FLDOE") for funding its 21 st Century Community Learning Center
Program at Holmes Elementary School; and
WHEREAS, said funds will be used for the following activities: (1) students participating in the
Exceptional Student Education program with learning disabilities will be provided one-on-one tutoring; (
2) arts and music education activities including visual, drama, and dance; (3) tutoring services and
mentoring program to increase student reading skills and literacy levels; (4) recreational activities with
an emphasis on physical fitness and health education, effectively addressing nutrition and obesity
issues; and (5) family literacy and parental involvement programs that will address needs of the
students' families;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI,
FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by
reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. The following new Special Revenue Fund is established and resources are appropriated
as described below:
FUND TITLE: Miami Learning Zone Grant Award
RESOURCES: The FLDOE 21st Century Community $38,750
Learning Center Program
APPROPRIATIONS: $38,750

Section 3. The City Manager is authorized{1} to accept said grant award and to execute the
necessary document(s), to implement said grant.
Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of
the Mayor.{2}

Footnotes:
{1} The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be imposed
by the City Attorney, including but not limited to those prescribed by applicable City Charter and Code
provisions.
{2} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar days
from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective
immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
