Additional Narrative (If Necessary):
The City of Miami Gang Detail hosts a variety of summer camps. Students
that have attended the core curriculum during the school year are
encouraged to participate in a wide range of activities that include:
softball, basketball, bowling, and rock climbing to name a few. In addition,
we give several presentations to the participants, and their parents. The
Gang Detail also gets the kids involved in community service oriented
activities throughout the community.
The S.A.V.E (Stop Active Vandalism Everywhere) Program is a program in
which the participants, and many times their parents, work together in
helping to clean up the City through a series of paint -outs, by painting over
graffiti. Personal pride in ones neighborhood is one of the primary goals
behind this initiative.
G.R.A.S.P. (Gang Resistance and Alternative Sports Program) is another
program the City of Miami Police Department sponsors. In this program,
the participants are encouraged to play a variety of organized sports along
with police officers.
Counseling and mentoring are a big part of this effort.
