HomeMy WebLinkAboutApplicant LetterDear G.R.E.A.T. Program Applicant Thank you for submitting an application to the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) for the Gang Resistance Education and Training (G.R.E.A.T.) program. BJA staff are processing your application and will contact you if they have any questions or need any additional information. While we are processing your G.R.E.A.T. application and conducting reviews of your budget, we understand that you may have already begun work on this important initiative. In light of this, we are expediting the application review process, with the expectation that all awards will be made before the end of September. Because we may be making grant awards before we have fully completed the budget reviews, we must, in some cases, place certain temporary restrictions on the grant awards which will be released once the budget is officially approved by the Office of Justice Program's Office of the Comptroller. BJA will make grant awards effective January 16, 2004 thus allowing you to be reimbursed for approved budgeted expenses occurring between January 16, 2004 and the date of the grant award. If you have any questions about allowable costs or purchases, e.g., G.R.E.A.T Summer Program expenses, please call BJA for guidance. While you are authorized to begin obligating funds, you will not be able to draw down funds until you have received, signed, and returned a grant award notice and have received notice that your budget has been approved. Furthermore, this agreement does not guarantee current or future funding. This preagreement cost letter only authorizes the specified funds to be expended for tasks which are included in the application and budget currently pending with BJA. Your organization will be responsible for the initial financing of these tasks and will be reimbursed for these costs subject to final budget approval and issuance of the award. Please note that all costs incurred prior to final budget approval are incurred at the risk of your organization. Please call or e-mail our office with any questions that arise. You may call Michelle Shaw, Policy Advisor, at (202) 514-9354, or e-mail her at michelle.a.shaw@usdoj.gov. You may also call Linda Hammond-Deckard, Policy Advisor, at (202) 514-6015, or e-mail her at Linda.Hammond- Deckard@usdoj.gov. Thank you for your commitment to the G.R.E.A.T program and working with our nation's youth to provide them the skills they need to avoid violence. Sincerely, Domingo Herraiz Director -®a3o /e744-c"
