The Downtown Development Authority (DDA) Board was created to exercise supervisory control over
the activities of the director and the staff of the Downtown Development Authority.
Twelve (of the fifteen) members of the DDA shall be appointed by the current board of directors of
the DDA and submitted to the City Commission for confirmation. One member may be appointed
by the Board of County Commissioners of Dade County and submitted to the City Commission for
confirmation. One member may be appointed by the Cabinet of the State and submitted to the City
Commission for confirmation. Four appointments are currently needed for terms which expired on
August 31, 2004.
Five appointments are needed at this time:
• The Commission At -Large is being requested to confirm the reappointment of the
following members nominated by the current board of directors of the DDA:
1. Mathew Gorson
2. Jerome Hollo
3. J. Megan Kelly, who has served as a member since June 9, 1994. City Code
Section 2-885(b) provides that no member shall serve more than eight
consecutive years on any one board. This provision may be waived by a
unanimous affirmative vote of the members of the Commission.
4. Jeffrey Bercow, who has served as a member since June 9, 1990. City Code
Section 2-885(b) provides that no member shall serve more than eight
consecutive years on any one board. This provision may be waived by a
unanimous affirmative vote of the members of the Commission.
• The Commission At -Large is being requested to confirm the appointment of Barbara
Carey-Shuler to fill a vacancy created by the resignation of Jimmy Morales.
For your convenience, we are including a copy of the current membership of said board. By copy
of this memorandum, we are requesting that the Agenda Office place this issue on the October 14,
2004 Commission agenda.
