HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-04-0667City of Miami Legislation Resolution: R-04-0667 City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com File Number: 04-01125 Final Action Date: 9/28/2004 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION DIRECTING THE CREATION OF AN "EMERGENCY RELIEF TASK FORCE ON HAITI" ("TASK FORCE") COMPOSED OF PEOPLE WITH EXPERTISE IN THE FIELDS OF PUBLIC HEALTH, RESEARCH, RESCUE OPERATIONS, MEDIAAND TRANSPORTATION AS NAMED HEREIN, TO CONDUCTA RAPID ASSESSMENT OF THE SITUATION IN HAITI IN THE AFTERMATH OF HURRICANE JEANNE ("HURRICANE"); PRIORITIZING URGENT HEALTH AND SOCIOECONOMIC NEEDS OF THE FAMILIES AFFECTED BY THE HURRICANE; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXPEND APPROPRIATED FUNDS, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $25,000, TO ASSIST THE VICTIMS OF THE HURRICANE PURSUANT TO THE RECOMMENDATIONS OF THE TASK FORCE; ALLOCATING FUNDS FROM A SOURCE IDENTIFIED BY THE CITY MANAGER. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The City Commission directs the creation of an "Emergency Relief Task Force on Haiti" ("Task Force") composed of people with expertise in the fields of Public Health, Research, Rescue Operations, Media and Transportation as named herein to conduct a rapid assessment of the situation in Haiti in the aftermath of Hurricane Jeanne ("Hurricane") prioritizing urgent health and socioeconomic needs of the families affected by the Hurricane: Laurinus Pierre, M.D., M.P.H. Executive Director of the Center for Haitian Studies, Health and Human Services -Public Health Specialist; Georges Metellus, M.D., M.P.H., Program Director at the Center for Haitian Studies, Health and Human Services -Public Health Specialist; Mireille Tribie, M.D., M.P.H., University of Miami School of Medicine, Public Health Specialist, Native of Gonaives (most affected town in Haiti); Louis B. Antoine, M.D., F.A.A.P., University of Miami School of Medicine, Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist Ed Lozama, Radio Planet 17, most popular Creole radio manager and host in South Florida; Jean Monestime, Councilman in the City of North Miami; Jocelyn David, Engineer, Specialist in Environment; City of Miami Page 1 of 2 File Id: 04-01125 (Version: 1) Printed On: 10/4/2016 File Number: 04-01125 Enactment Number: R-04-0667 Jean Michel Cetoute, Manager of A.D.E.A.H. Cargo Airlines; Aida Martinelli, Director of Internal Services, American Red Cross; and Jeff Koenreich, Chapter Advancement Officer, American Red Cross, a representative of the City of Miami Department of Fire -Rescue. Section 2. The City Manager is authorized{1} to expend appropriated funds, in an amount not to exceed $25,000, to assist the victims of the Hurricane pursuant to the recommendations of the Task Force, with said funds allocated from a source identified by the City Manager. Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor.{2} Footnotes: {1} The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be imposed by the City Attorney, including but not limited to those prescribed by applicable City Charter and Code provisions. {2} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
