Dear Ms. Ethridge:
Enclosed please find Survivalink Corporation's response to the City of San Diego's Request for
Proposal for automated external defibrillators. We would like to expand on our proposal In
three areas:
Statement of InterestJn Municloal Marketing Partnership Program
Survivalink Corporation would like to confirm its interest in discussing the potential for a
marketing partnership between the City of San Diego and Survivalink. We look forward to
exchanging mutually beneficial ideas upon the award of this proposal,
Future Upgrades 4Dd Enhancement
Survivalink would like to offer the City of San Diego, for the purpose of this RFP, a "no -charge"
upgrade to a new release of the F1rstSave4AED currently under review by the FDA.
This new FirstSave will have the fallowing additional features:
• A new analysis algorithm that will perform extensive morphological analysis on the ECG
• A new low energy version of our STAR Biphasic Waveform with the following delivered
energies:
o lg shock: 105 —195 3
O 2nd and 314 shocks: 140 — 250 J
(This low energy protocol has already received marketing clearance from the FDA. We
will continue to offer our current STAR Biphasic protocol which varies between 140 —
360 J.)
The new analysis algorithm being Incorporated into FirstSave is the RhythmX ECD software
from Cardiac Science. RhythmX is currently being marketed by Cardiac Science in their
Powerheart Defibrillator which is used prophylactically on patients at risk of cardiac arrest, This
allows the defibrillator to be used on conscious, breathing and ambulatory patients. This
algorithm is obviously more robust than any AED algorithm on the market today. Survivalink
believes that allowing prophylactic use of an AED on breathing and conscious patients could be
a significant advantage to the AED user. At a minimum, it will reduce liability to a user from
improper application of the AED.

Another feature of the RhythmX software is that patients with VT and SVT receive a
synchronized cardioversion instead of a standard defibrillation shock. Cardioversion is generally
recommended and widely used for a patient experiencing VT or SVT.
Exchange of Airport AEDs
Survivelink understands that the City of San Diego has already purchased AEDs for the airport.
In an attempt to help with AED uniformity, Survivelink offers to trade new FirstSave AEDs for
the existing devices at the airport.
We at Survivelink would welcome the opportunity to partner with the City of San Diego to
establish a comprehensive and successful AED program. If we can provide you with any
additional information, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Sincerely,
Clark Hood
