Resolution Accepting a
Grant from the Children's
Trust for Educational
Programs in Five City Parks
RECOMMENDATION:
It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached Resolution
creating a new special revenue fund and accepting and appropriating a grant from The
Children's Trust in the amount of $500,000 towards funding the Heart Of Our Parks year-
round recreation, art, music, cultural core educational out -of -school time programs to be
operated in five City parks, i,e., Juan Pablo Duarte, Legion Memorial, Moore Park, Athalie
Range and Shenandoah Parks. Total Project cost is $963,384, which includes matching
funds in the amount of $463,384 from various other agencies as well as the Parks and
Recreation General Fund.
BACKGROUND:
The Department of Park and Recreation applied to The Children's Trust to assist in the
funding of a year-round program to provide recreational, music, art, cultural and core
educational out -of —school time programs through the City's Heart of the Parks initiative.
The Children's Trust has awarded the City $500,000 towards the total required project cost
of $963, 384 to operate the program from five City Parks. The City will be matching the
grant with $463,384 from various agencies and from Parks and Recreation General Fund.
Adoption of the attached Resolution authorizes the City Manager to accept the award of
$500,000 from The Children's Trust and authorizes the City Manager to execute all
necessary documents to accept and implement said grant.
