Thompson City Clerk Date: August 13, 2004 Subject: Haiti Bicentennial Coordination Committee References: September 9, 2004 Agenda Enclosures: List of members The Miami and South Florida Coordination Committee for the Celebration of the Republic of Haiti Bicentennial (January 1, 1804 — January 1, 2004) was created to have the City of Miami's coordination and organization of events, in cooperation with the Office of the Mayor, related to the celebration of the 200 Year Bicentennial of Haiti, such celebration to consist of various activities to take place in the South Florida area throughout the Year 2003 and culminating with a major festivity on January 1, 2005. The composition of the committee is as follows: The Mayor and a City Commissioner are designated as Co -chairpersons of the committee. The Chair of the Committee shall be the District 5 Commissioner who represents Little Haiti. Two members shall be appointed by the City Commission. Each County, Municipal Commission or Council, School Board, or other such governmental entity that wishes to participate in, or facilitate, such coordination of celebratory events and activities, may, by interlocal agreement (in a form acceptable to the City Attorney) fully and equally participate in the Committee. The following organizations are appointed to the Committee: o The Consul General of the Republic of Haiti with Co -Chair status o The Haitian American Grassroots Coalition — 7 members, with one being designated as Co -Chairperson o The South Florida Haitian American Historical Society — 1 member o Notre -Dame d'Haiti Church — 3 members, with one being designated as Co -Chair o Haitian American Alliance Youth Foundation — 1 member o Haitian American Chamber of Commerce — 3 members, with one being designated as Co - Chair o Miami -Dade and Broward Counties, Cities of North Miami and El Portal, Miami -Dade and Broward County School Boards, and any other governmental entities as provided for in Sect. 3 of R-03-77, provided that such representation is in the same manner provided for in Sect. 2 of R-03-77 o Other such entities that may be designated from time to time by the City Commission provided such action is taken after a published notice. Some of the members of the Haiti Bicentennial Coordination Committee have exceeded the number of absences allowed per City Code. The list attached shows the members' attendance record; pages 4-7 are a list of individuals who signed in during certain meetings, but are not listed as official members. For your convenience, we are including a copy of the membership of said committee. By copy of this memorandum, we are requesting the Agenda Office to place this issue on the September 9, 2004 Commission agenda.
