The Mayor's International Council was created to (1) plan and implement the City's International
Trade promotion policies for the purposes of stimulating commercial and residential development
and expanding the City's tax base through the promotion of foreign trade and local investment in
accordance with the bylaws adopted by the Council; (2) serve in an advisory capacity for the City of
Miami Sister Cities Program to plan, implement, and oversee the City's international, professional,
and technical educational and cultural exchanges, promotion and policies to create and stimulate
friendly and meaningful relationships; and (3) coordinate protocol requirements for national and
international events and dignitaries pursuant to the standard and practices adopted by the Council.
City Code Section 2-284 states that unless the city commission by four -fifths vote of its membership
waives the requirement, all board members shall either reside in the city, own real property in the
city or maintain a business in the city.
One appointment is needed at this time:
• Commission At -Large has one appointment for seat currently held by Maria Dreyfus-
Ulvert who does not comply with the City Code's residency requirement.
For your convenience, we are including a copy of the current membership list of the council. By
copy of this memorandum, we are requesting that the Agenda Office place this issue on the
September 9, 2004 Commission agenda.
