Overtown Pedestrian Mall, Miami Florida Project Director/Designer: The Concept of the Overtown Pedestrian Mall was formulated in the SE Overtown/Park West Redevelopment Plan by Wallace Roberts & Todd. The Spine of the Redevelopment Concept is the establishment of a broad pedestrian mall from 1-95 to Biscayne Bay. The Overtown Pedestrian Mall eliminates vehicular traffic on NW 9th Street and establishes a broad pedestrian mall in its place. Constructed of rustic terrazzo in vibrant oranges, yellows, blues and greens, the plaza is punctuated with clusters of seating drums and commemorative bronze medallions documenting historic events within the Overtown Community. Dayton Plaza of Flight Dayton, Ohio, Principal in Charge: WRT has been retained as landscape architects and site planning consultants to design an urban plaza in downtown Dayton that commemorates and celebrates the City as the birthplace of flight and home of the Wright Brothers. Art & Architecture - Miami Symposium, 1995, Center of Contemporary Arts, North Miami, FL Gerald C. Marston, ASLA Page 1 of 3 Orlando Centroplex, Orlando Florida Project Director/Designer while with Sasaki Associates Inc., Coral Gables, Florida. The Centroplex site identified by WRT in Orlando's Downtown Plan as an area that could generate opportunities for additional convention related activities. The fifty -acre project consists of the existing Bob Carr Performing Arts Center, Existing Expo Center, 15,000 seat Civic Arena and a four hundred -room hotel. The final site Master Plan created a unique entertainment district in downtown Orlando with signature paving, courtyards and plazas with contextual fountains, and lush landscaping forming this pedestrian oasis within the downtown core. Miami Beach Historic Convention Village - Civic Improvements, Miami Beach, Florida Project Director/Designer The Miami Beach Historic Convention Village Civic Improvements focused on the development of schematic plans and design guidelines and schematic designs for a new City Hall plaza, botanical garden and riverwalk. Estero Island Streetscape, Fort Myers, Florida Project Director/Designer Following the adoption of a WRT prepared redevelopment plan for this nine mile long barrier island on Florida's west coast, WRT is prepared detailed design and construction documents for New Island entry signage, over one mile of urban roadway streetscape improvements and the creation of a pedestrian mall as the focus of the traditional resort entertainment district. Flagler Corridor Streetscape, Miami, Florida Principal in Charge WRT was selected to prepare streetscape redevelopment plans for Miami's Main Street, the Flagler Corridor, from the Miami River to Biscayne Bay. WRT prepared detailed schematic and design development documents for Downtown Development Authority. WRT is currently under contract to develop construction documents for the Flagler Corridor. Sunrise Civic Center, Sunrise, Florida. Project Director / Designer: WRT provided Master Planning services for the City of Sunrise Civic Complex which included integration with the existing City Hall and Fire Station and an adjacent office building to be converted to police and fire rescue use. The new 37-acre Civic Complex includes a Broward County Library, a Senior Citizens Center and the 72,000 SF Civic Center. The plan required siting of the new facilities, Design of vehicular and pedestrian circulation systems and the development of a lake for storm water management. WRT also completed landscape design for wetland restoration within the existing lake, a new main entrance from Oakland Park Boulevard and landscape and irrigation design and construction administration services for the Senior Center and Civic Center Facilities REPRESENTATIVE PARK PLANNING AND DESIGN PROJECTS Haulover Park Master Plan, Miami -Dade County, FL WRT was retained by Miami -Dade County to prepare a Master Plan for Haulover Park, one of the County's most important regional parks. Haulover has served for decades as a prime beach attraction for residents and visitors, as well as offering a variety of recreation including golf, tennis, boating and fishing. In recent years the park has suffered from deterioration of some facilities and a decline in popularity. In developing the Master Plan, WRT examined a number of options for the golf program (including both traditional course and teaching facilities), beach revitalization and other park elements. WRT worked closely with County staff, municipal representatives and other stakeholders, as well as special consultants the National Golf Foundation, in developing and evaluating concepts. The Master Plan concept includes a re- located and expanded, special waterfront par 3 golf course; an WALLACE ROBERTS eS' TODD, LLC enhanced and diversified beach experience; improved parking and circulation; an extensive waterfront promenade; an expanded marina and concession area; a conservation education facility; and a" great lawn" civic space for community events. Coral Gables War Memorial Youth Center, Coral Gables, FL. Partner in Charge / Lead Designer: WRT prepared a Master Plan for the renovation and expansion of the Coral Gables War Memorial Youth Center. Working with a recreational needs program prepared by the Metropolitan Dade County Parks and Recreation Department, WRT combined its architectural and landscape architectural expertise to provide an integrated solution for the Youth Center's future needs. New expanded outdoor facilities included three baseball fields, two soccer/football fields, combined basketball /rollerhocky court and tot -lot. The architectural solution included a new gym, auditorium, locker rooms, and multipurpose craft and meeting rooms. The Master Plan also recognized the "Civic" aspects of the expanded facility and relocated the main entrance on University Drive During the two part design and construction phases of the project, WRT served as landscape architects preparing detailed design documents and providing construction administration services for over $600,000. in site improvements including athletic facilities, landscaping and irrigation. Fairchild Tropical Garden, Miami, FL Partner In Charge: WRT prepared a Master Plan for Fairchild Tropical Garden, the Miami region's 83-acre public botanical garden and a world-renowned collection of palms, cycads, and other tropical plant families. The Master Plan, completed in 1995, was the Garden's first comprehensive evaluation of its physical plan and facility growth needs in over 30 years. The Master Plan identified key strategies for meeting the growing demands of the Garden's programs and operations through cooperative projects with adjacent Dade County park facilities, as well as strategic upgrades and expansions of existing Garden facilities. The Master Plan also carefully preserved and restored significant features and concepts of the original 1938 Garden plans, prepared by the pioneering Florida landscape architect and Olmsted associate William Lyman Phillips. In conjunction with the Master Plan, WRT also designed specific "early action" improvements to help re -invigorate the Garden in the aftermath of Hurricane Andrew. These included a renovation of the Garden's front parking area and entrance, a restoration of the "Phillips Gate" and original entrance Allee, and a restoration plan for the Flowering Tree Section. Volunteer Park & Equestrian Center, Plantation, FL Principal in Charge: WRT has been retained by the City of Plantation to prepare design and construction documents for the $6 million development and expansion of Volunteer Park. This unique project will combine a multi -use, open -space community park — adjacent to an existing Community Center -- with extensive restored wetlands, trails and boardwalks and a nature- themed playground. In addition, the City's popular but aging Horse Arena, also adjacent to the park, will be completely renovated and expanded as part of the project, providing a venue for Class "A" Horse Shows as well as a wide variety of special equestrian uses. Greynolds Park Swimming Hole, Dade County, Florida. Partner in Charge: WRT provided conceptual design and feasibility studies for the reintroduction of a "Swimming Hole" in Dade's historic Greynolds Park. Due to the deterioration of water quality and related issues, swimming was no longer allowed in the original lagoon. WRT evaluated a number of options for treated water containment and alternative technologies and evaluated the permitting and environmental implications of each. WRT's two recommended options for the reintroduction of swimming in Greynolds Park included: the preferred option of utilizing ozone water treatment to remove, treat and return water to the north end of the lagoon creating a bubble of clean Gerald C. Marston, ASLA Page 2 of 3 water without harming the existing aquatic flora and fauna; and a second option proposing a sand bottomed upland "Swimming Hole" in a naturalistic setting perched on existing high ground overlooking the lagoon. Boynton Intracoastal Waterway Park, Boynton Beach, Florida. Project Director / Designer: WRT prepared a Master Plan for the last undeveloped parcel of land on the Intracoastal Waterway in Boynton Beach. The primary objectives of the plan were scenic enhancement, environmental restoration of the site, and educational interpretation. Master Plan facilities include a two-story picnic facility, an educational and performance pavilion, a Veterans Memorial garden and shelter, picnic shelters and restrooms and associated parking. Greynolds Park Bird Watching Tower, Dade County, Florida. Project Director / Designer: Greynolds Park is home to one of the region's largest wading bird rookeries. WRT was commissioned by the Metropolitan Dade County Parks and Recreation Department to provide conceptual design and permitability review for a bird watching tower overlooking the main rookery. Key issues that influenced the design included: minimizing impacts on the existing mangroves and bird nesting areas, providing full accessibility for physically challenged visitors, and maintaining design compatibility within the historic park setting. WRT's design solution proposes a gently sloping elevated walkway leading to a sheltered platform perched ten feet above the water. The gently curving walkway skirts the existing mangrove fringe and rises to reveal expanding views of the lagoon and rookery. REPRESENTATIVE INSTITUTIONAL PROJECTS Florida Gulf Coast University, Fort Myers, FL Mr. Marston served as project director for the landscape architectural aspects of the firm's Master Plan for the Florida Gulf Coast University. The concept builds on the qualities of the existing vegetation through a tiered approach. The FGCU site contains organized to minimize impacts and retain, preserve and restore existing areas of high quality wetland vegetation. University of Central Florida Landscape Master Plan, Orlando, FL Mr. Marston served as project director for the preparation of the Landscape Design Guidelines for the University of Central Florida. The element required a detailed inventory and analysis of the existing character and quality of landscape treatments for all campus spaces. Based on the evaluation WRT prepared a conceptual framework for enhancement of the existing campus and all future developments identified in the Master Plan. University of Miami Landscape Master Plan, Coral Gables, FL Mr. Marston served as project director for the preparation of the Landscape Master Plan for the University of Miami after the destruction caused by Hurricane Andrew in August 1992. The plan included detailed inventory and analysis of the existing landscape development and focused on the creation of a framework for improvement of existing landscaped spaces and creation of themed elements related to future expansion. The framework identified three district zones: Academic Core, New Campus/Main Entrance and Athletics/Student Housing Zones and established clear design concepts for each. A major feature of the plan was the identification of the Academic Core "Great Spaces" and the development of alternative concepts creating memorable institutional spaces. WALLACE ROBERTS er TODD, LLC University of Georgia Visual and Performing Arts Center, Athens, GA Mr. Marston recently completed an assignment as a planner / landscape architect with a design team which won a national design competition for the new Visual and Performing Arts Center at the University of Georgia in Athens. The plan envisioned a group of buildings clustered around a courtyard, much like the historic quadrangle that forms the center of the original campus. WRT provided master planning, urban design and landscape architectural services through construction administration. REPRESENTATIVE TOURISM PROJECTS Ritz Carlton Grenada, Grenada, West Indies Principal In Charge: WRT is currently preparing landscape plans for a hotel and golf resort in Grenada that includes a championship golf course, two marinas, residential villas and townhouses, and a five-star hotel. The project is being developed according to the latest technologies and principles of sustainable design, and is intended to complement and protect the adjacent habitat sanctuary of the endangered Grenada Dove Lake Nona Mixed Use Resort Community, Orlando, Florida Project Director/Designer while with E.D.S.A., Fort Lauderdale, Florida Lake Nona is a 6700-acre mixed -use development with an emphasis on golf resort communities. The project was a development pioneer in the southeast quadrant of Orlando and is immediately adjacent to the expanding Orlando International Airport. The site abounds with natural features including more than 900 acres of pristine freshwater lakes. The first phase, Lake Nona Golf Club and Estates, includes an 18-hole Tom Fazio championship golf course and more than 100 luxury homesites. The club is recognized as one of Florida's best and is quickly establishing a quality image for future development. Antigua Resort Community, Antigua, British West Indies Project Director/Planner while with Sasaki Associates, Inc., Coral Gables, Florida The Antigua Resort Community was conceived as an adaptive re- use of an existing petroleum off loading and storage facility of approximately 80 acres. In order to compete with other waterfront oriented resorts on the island and in the Caribbean region, the concept included obtaining an additional 2000 acres of coastal property to serve as community beach front and marina amenities and a 200 acre expansion of upland facilities to include the development of a championship golf course and related housing. The core of the community which is to be developed on the existing site include a tourist resort commercial town center, a cricket academy and a meeting facility lodge associated with the golf club house. Disney Contemporary Resort Meeting Facility, Orlando, Florida Director/Project Landscape Architect while with Sasaki Associates, Inc., Coral Gables, Florida Master Planning and urban landscape architectural services were performed for the addition of a 120,000 S.F. meeting facility adjacent to the existing Contemporary Hotel at Walt Disney World. The entry plaza unites the porte-cocheres of both the hotel and meeting facility and provides a lively graphic textured urban piazza for mixed vehicular and pedestrian use. The structure will combine a five star, Four Seasons hotel, luxury office space, and extended stay and condominium residences. The hotel will include ballrooms, functions rooms and a state of the art health club and recreation deck. Located between Brickell Avenue and Biscayne Bay near downtown Miami, the building represents a new model for urban living. This multi -use facility will have a dual role, serving as a tourist destination and as an integral part of the urban community. Features include retail shops, a sports club and a recreation deck. • Brickell on the River Complex - A mixed -use complex that includes 60- and 52-story towers encompassing residential, hotel, offices, gymnasium, meeting rooms, parking garage and restaurant. Special consideration was given to maximize views from each floor, maintain a slender profile for the tower, conceal the parking garage, enhance pedestrian activity and improve the Riverwalk.The project includes 96 residential units, 325 residential hotel units and a 4,430-sf restaurant. • Quayside Lake Townhomes - This project consists of I8 luxury townhouse units along Biscayne Bay and 32 lake townhomes. Mr. Fernandez is responsible for the overall design and project management of this project. Recreational/Sports Project Experience • Homestead Motorsports Complex Grand Prix Experience - This racing facility which featured the Busch Grand National Finale in November of 1995, and the Grand Prix of Miami in March of 1996, was a unique design opportunity. The project includes a 1.5 mile quadoval and a 2.2 mile road course which have been designed to serve a venue of different events. Each curse will provide the necessary turns, straight-aways and other features deemed necessary to obtain a world -class racing facility that is both interesting and challenging. The central component of each course is the pit and paddock area, housing garages, hospitality suites, ancillary buildings, and entertainment and concession areas.As part of Phase I there are 55,000 permanent bleacher seats,a Race Control tower with 20 corporate suites,administrative offices and a press area. Future phases will include industry garages, corporate condominiums, a main street and racing village entertainment areas. The construction cost of the first phase of the project was over $58 million. It is also estimated that once all phases of the project are completed, the Motorsports Complex will represent a $70 million investment. • Grand Prix of Miami - This racing facility was unique because once again racing took place within the streets in downtown Miami. The requirements were to design a facility that would be erected once a year for Indy Style racing. As project manager, Mr. Fernandez was responsible for the coordination between all State, County, City agencies and racing associations to bring this project to completion. • Aruba International Motorsports Complex, Aruba, Dutch Antilles - As Project Manager, Mr.Fernandez was involved from initial feasibility studies through site selection and design documents.The project required innovative engineering approaches for not only the 2.72 mile Grand Prix Circuit, but also infrastructure development at a remote, undeveloped location. Extensive meetings were held between residents, users, interest groups, city administration, maintenance personnel, regulatory and review agencies to identify concerns and develop a consensus -based ID development program for the park system and individual recreation sites. Plans were developed addressing all of the 110 concerns including security, maintenance, accessibility and code compliance. It will integrate a five-star hotel with luxury residential condominiums, timeshare units, a fitness facility, and Class A office space into a 64 story concrete frame as a landmark destination. The tower is clad in a glass and metal skin, and the low- rise podium containing the parking garage is stone and pre -cast panels. Intended for business travelers and international passen- gers, the Club has service representatives available for ticketing, upgrades, flight information and a variety of relat- ed services. It includes a main lounge with a media area, library bar, adjacent lounge area, and two fully equipped business areas. The club's design reflects the vibrancy of Mexican culture and art, with the use of local marble, pottery and onyx accessories throughout. Local original art is also displayed. The entry features etched glass, cherry wood and polished marble. The reception area has a contemporary feel with colonial red and grey marble flooring with black granite inlays. The clean, geometric pattern is repeated in the mill- work throughout the Club. A brass inlay of the Club's logo is featured in a richly appointed cherry & ebony wood mill- work cabinet that also provides concealed storage. The reception area overlooks the aircrafts and offers view of distant mountains. Members can play chess in lavishly upholstered leather club chairs, enjoy the well -supplied bar, watch a movie or television in the media area, or read in the library. Richly appointed wood columns throughout the Club are accented by upholstered, segmented panels with cherry inlays. The design concept for this club, reflects a casual elegance with a South Florida ambience through use of natural materials, colors of the sand, sea and sky and tropical greenery. An international flavor is reflected in local Caribbean and Latin American artwork. The club has distinct zones for different uses. The spa- cious reception area welcomes visitors to the club, and the bar/lounge and general lounge provide comfortable relaxing seating areas. Amenities include a 2,000 SF atri- um terrace lounge, a business center and conference facil- ities, media rooms, a quiet room, full shower/ dressing rooms and a children's playroom complete with fiber- optic constellations shining from the ceiling, a spaceship and a CD-ROM video. The double atrium glass enclosure gives club members "a window on the world" to view two plane ramps and the peoplemover. It also provides a clear view of the 200-gallon aquarium and a 76-foot-long bar. State-of-the-art technology controls the club's sound and lighting systems via computerized touch screens. B&A was responsible for all aspects of design, specifying and selection, including signage. BEBMELLO•AJAM IL ARABT"ERRRI"L 111 1< 110 MIAMI BEACH PARKS MASTER PLAN Miami Beach, Florida 111/ Bermello, Ajamil & Partners led the Miami 11) Beach Parks Master Plan project, surveying and setting design standards for 20 City of Miami Beach parks for all buildings, landscape architecture and site furnishings. Future development was also examined, within the context of the overall Miami Beach IP master plan. IP Recreational demand was assessed through surveying 300 school children and holding 25 meetings with Miami Beach residents, parks . department personnel and City Hall officials. Each park was evaluated in terms of its use and usability in relation to passive or active use, neighborhood/region of the city in which the park is located and how it functions in relation to the community at large. The firm compiled guidelines to be followed in con- , struction on this $15 million project over five years. The development plan showed every 111 item to be implemented within the budget plus projects for the future if additional fund- , ing is secured. The guidelines also included recommendations for standard components to be used throughout the park system, cho- sen for durability, ease of maintenance and flexibility, plus cost savings when purchased in bulk. There were provisions for diversity as appropriate to suit the personality of each neighborhood and park. B&A also was selected to implement the ' Parks Master Plan. 11 0 /ENNELLO•AJAMI P A R I N E R S• I N HOMESTEAD MOTORSPORTS COMPLEX Homestead, FL 1996 Award of Excellence,AIA Florida 1996 Project of the Year, ASCE Size: 360 acre Parking Space: 120 Bay Garage Cost $59 million Bermello, Ajamil & Partners was general consultant for design of the Metro -Dade Homestead Motorsports Complex. Services provided included architecture, civil engineering (track design, site engineering, water & sewer), planning and permitting, landscape architecture and interior design. The facility was uniquely designed to meet requirements of all the major racing sanctioning bodies, including NASCAR, IndyCar, SCCA, Formula One (FIA), IMSA and AMA (motorcycles). The Homestead Motorsports Complex was master - planned with consideration for the area's ecological fea- tures and neighboring land uses. The master plan includ- ed construction and expansion, development issues, and landscape and irrigation plans, as well as main entrance accent plantings, right-of-way plantings and landscaping the racetrack perimeter. Site development was a major issue, requiring planning and engineering of racing surfaces, grading, drainage and lake development. Extensive permitting with various jurisdictional agencies was also required, as was wetland mitigation. Site improvements include more than 4 miles of water and sewer mains, 5 miles of paved roads, 2 vehic- ular tunnels, a 1-million-gallon elevated water tank, 31,500 linear feet of specialized barrier walls and 47,500 linear feet of cable -reinforced containment fencing. There is parking for 24,000 cars. Phase I encompassed 380,000 SF of new construction. The Homestead Motorsports Complex includes a 2.2- mile road circuit course and a I.5-mile, four -turn oval track. Facilities include a grandstand, hospitality suites, concessions, and garage with corporate suites atop for observation of the pit row and paddock activities. There are also race control and media offices, rooftop observa- tion deck, meeting room, med-evac and commuter heli- pads, and Racing Village concessions area. BEBMELLO•AJAMIL &PABTNEBS•INC THE COLONNADE Miami, Florida Located on the Southwest quadrant at the intersection of Southwest 72nd Avenue and Southwest 82nd Street directly to the north of the internationally recognized Dadeland Mall in what will become Downtown Kendall, this project is part of the newly zoned district of the Downtown Kendall Urban Center Zoning District. This new district requires a pedestrian friend- ly environment with landscaped promenades, community parks, pedestrian arcades, buffered parking garages, habitable spaces fronting sidewalks, and building setbacks above all 5 story podi- um levels to reduce the scale of the buildings and maximized sunlight to the street scape. The client established a program that includes approximately 560 residential units with a mix ratio of 20/70/10, one bed- room, two bedrooms and three bedrooms respectively. A vari- ety of units were designed such as town home walk ups, pool courtyard units, traditional single level units and multilevel pent- house units. The program would also include common areas, landscaped courtyards, and retail spaces. These programmatic requirements were distributed into four buildings, each encom- passing the size of a city block with either pedestrian or vehic- ular access to all sides. This generated a series of buildings with no rear building facades. All exterior elevations have been designed as street frontage facades. All off-street parking struc- tures have been completely buffered, a two story colonnade fronts on 72nd Avenue and a community park has been locat- ed at the intersection of 72nd Avenue and 82nd Street as man- dated by the new zoning code. The project will be constructed in four phases, with phase I and II occurring simultaneously. These initial phases are scheduled to be completed by December of 2004. Phase 111 and IV are scheduled for completion in December 2005. BERMELLO•AJAMIL SP ART/1EIIS0MC THE 1800 CLUB Miami, Florida 2002 Society of American Registered Architects Award for Design Excellence The 1800 Club is a 450-unit mixed -use high rise located on Biscayne Bay in downtown Miami's emerging Performing Arts Center neighborhood. City planners envisioned a signature skyline project that would encour- age public interaction with the adjacent waterfront park and promote a pedestrian friendly environment. As with any project of this magnitude, several public hearings were required to obtain a Major Use Special Permit. The design solution incorporates an "L"-shape plan with a sysmmetrical wing heights responding to the different scales of the surrounding neighborhood. A cylindrical corner "beacon" binds the two wings together. The overall tower is 40 stories wrapping a 9-story park- ing garage on an extremely tight site. The lobby level fea- tures a restaurant/outdoor cafe which serves to draw a crowd like the original "1800 Club". Above are two office floors followed by five "townhouse" floors. The ninth floor pool deck has an open breezeway to the bay through a double height"hole" in the main wing. Two story cabana units open to the pool and tennis court while two differ- ent residential floor plates achieve the desired unit ration in the tower. The structural system is post -tension con- crete built by flying forms. A blue-green glass with blue- green in lite with a low shading coefficient was chosen simultaneously for richness of color and to minimize air conditioning loads. The 1800 club is currently in the construction document phase. The total construction cost is $48.5 million / $55 per SF. Florida Skyline is a 360-unit residential high rise which occupies a high pro- file site on Miami's skyline. Located next to Arquitectonica's Miami Vice featured condominium the Atlantis, and the luxurious Bristol Tower, the primary challenge was to design a building that would enhance the downtown image while maintaining view corridors to Biscayne Bay. City planners and neighborhood input played a criti- cal role in the evolution of the project. Numerous public hearings were required to obtain a Major Use Special Permit. The design solution incorporates a slender rectangular glass tower with protruding elliptical balconies to maximize views and minimize the massing. The overall tower is 34 stories set on top of a three- story subterranean parking garage. The ground floorlobby fea- tures a 106-foot curved glass wall overlooking the bay and includes tenant amenities such as business center, convenience store, and mail room. The second floor provides a party room, gym and stor- age space. Two different residential floor plates achieve the desired unit ratio. Like most projects, Skyline was budget driven and cost determined many decisions. Of primary consideration are the structural and glazing systems. The structural system is post -tension concrete bulk by flying forms. AMERICAN AIRLINES CONCOURSE "D" ADMIRALS CLUB Miami, FL Completion: 1998 Size: 12,784 SF Cost of Construction: $3.S million Seating 289 Uub Members Bermello, Ajamil & Partners, Inc. was commissioned to renovate an existing Admirals Club located in Concourse "D" of the Miami International Airport. The design concept for this Club was to create a dynam- ic interior while providing the comfort level that passen- gers demand, all within the undulating and angular f iot print of the existing space. The materials included high tech aviation -like finishes, to compliment the overall back- ground color of the natural maple and anigre woods, light granites, and fabric wall coverings. Passengers can visit the large bar lounge with its exclusive smoker's area. For business travelers, a copy -fax area with adjacent conference rooms was provided. Club members coming off long flights can use one of the six full service showers added to the facility. This accommodation alone sets this club apart from all others. Parents can take their children to the family area to enjoy video games and tele- vision programming. The selection of artwork for the Club played an impor- tant role in setting the ambiance and identifying the Club as a Miami location. A special effort was put forth to select Latin American artists for the enjoyment of South American and Caribbean Club Members. A major challenge was the scheduling of construction into three different phases, while still maintaining the daily operations of the facility. During these phases, 2,000 pas- sengers were served on a daily basis without any major conflicts. B&A was responsible for the complete space planning, interior design, specifications, FF&E, signage and con- struction administration for this project. LOUNGE Miami, FL American Airlines retained Bermello, Ajamil & Partners, Inc. to design a hospitality lounge at MIA's Concourse "E" for first-class passengers, government officials and digni- taries. The 25-foot ceilings in this lounge create dramatic volume. A custom reception desk for special services representa- tives who assist passengers and dignitaries with flight infor- mation and ticketing. To accommodate business needs, a dedicated area has been created for facsimile machines and photocopying. The lounge area has seating and a buffet area. Luggage storage and kitchen facilities for passenger convenience were also included.
