RECOMMENDATION
It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached Resolution which
establishes initial resources and initial appropriations for a Special Revenue Fund entitled:
"Bu11'etproof Vest Partnership (BVP) Grant III," accepting a grant from the U.S. Department of
Justice, Office of Justice Programs, Bureau of Justice Assistance, in the amount of $5,638.38.
BACKGROUND
The Police Department has been awarded a grant from the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of
Justice Programs, Bureau of Justice Assistance. The Bulletproof Vest Partnership (BVP) Grant
Act of 1998 was signed into law (Public Law 105-81), on June 16, 1998. The purpose of the Act is
to save the lives of law enforcement officers by assisting state, local, and tribal governments to
equip their law enforcement officers with armor vests. The program reimburses up to 50% of the
total cost for each vest purchased. Total cost includes the price of the vests, shipping, handling,
fitting charges, state and local taxes, if applicable. This program only allows for the
reimbursement of body armor that has been tested and found to comply with the National Institute
of Justice's (NIJ) standards.
