THE BULLETPROOF VEST PARTNERSHIP (BVP) GRANT ACT OF 1998 WAS SIGNED INTO LAW (PUBLIC LAW 105-81) , ON JUNE 16, 1998. HOW IS THIS ITEM GOING TO ENHANCE THE QUALITY OF SERVICE TO THE CUSTOMER / CITIZENS? THE PURPOSE OF THE ACT IS TO SAVE THE LIVES OF LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS BY ASSISTING STATE, LOCAL, AND TRIBAL GOVERNMENTS TO EQUIP THEIR LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS WITH ARMOR VESTS. THE PROGRAM REIMBURSES UP TO 50% OF THE TOTAL COST FOR EACH VEST PURCHASED. TOTAL COST INCLUDES THE PRICE OF THE VESTS, SHIPPING, HANDLING, FITTING CHARGES, STATE AND LOCAL TAXES, IF APPLICABLE.
