HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-04-0505City of Miami Legislation Resolution: R-04-0505 City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com File Number: 04-00757 Final Action Date: 7/22/2004 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION URGING THE MIAMI-DADE COUNTY MANAGER AND THE MEMBERS OF THE MIAMI-DADE COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS TO TAKE ALL ACTIONS NECESSARY TO PROVIDE GREATLY NEEDED SERVICES FOR THE ELDERLY RESIDING IN PUBLIC HOUSING DEVELOPMENTS, SUCH AS HOUSING AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT ("HUD") BUILDINGS, WITHIN THE LIMITS OF THE CITY OF MIAMI. WHEREAS, there are existing State of Florida programs that allow municipalities to coordinate services to assist the elderly residing in public housing developments such as Housing and Urban Development ("HUD") buildings; and WHEREAS, the programs include, but are not limited to, in -home companionship, meal preparation, light housekeeping, transportation, errand and laundry services, grocery and other shopping, and recreational activities, for the elderly living in HUD buildings; and WHEREAS, the programs assist the elderly by allowing them a better quality of life and avoiding institutionalization; and WHEREAS, there exists a critical need for affordable housing in the City and the Public Housing Agency is presently experiencing a high vacancy rate; and WHEREAS, the provision of said programs and services would have a positive impact on paring needy elderly with housing assistance; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The Miami City Commission urges the Miami -Dade County Manager and the Members of the Miami -Dade County Commissioners to take all actions necessary to provide greatly needed services for the elderly residing in public housing developments, such as HUD buildings within the limits of the City. Section 3. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
