HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-04-0499City of Miami Legislation Resolution: R-04-0499 City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com File Number: 04-00812 Final Action Date: 7/22/2004 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION, AUTHORIZING THE TRANSFER OF HOME INVESTMENT PARTNERSHIPS PROGRAM ("HOME") FUNDS, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $500,000, FROM THE DISTRICT 4 HOUSING PILOT PROJECT; ALLOCATING SAID FUNDS TO THE MDHA DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE SMATHERS PLAZA, AN ASSISTED LIVING FACILITY. WHEREAS, Resolution No. 03-454, adopted May 8, 2003, allocated Home Investment Partnerships Program ("HOME") funds to the District 4 Housing Pilot Project for the development of affordable housing in the amount of $500,000; and WHEREAS, the need for long-term care services for older adults is potentially enormous in the City of Miami ("City"); and WHEREAS, there is substantial pressure to develop a larger, but low-cost, system of Assisted Living Facilities and long-term care; and WHEREAS, MDHA Development Corporation has both the expertise and leveraged funds to develop the Smathers Plaza, an Assisted Living Facility inclusive of general services to benefit 105 senior citizens; and WHEREAS, this facility will be located at 935 Southwest 30th Avenue, Miami, Florida,and house 105 elderly residents; WHEREAS, said funds will be subject to approval by the Housing and Commercial Loan Committee NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The transfer of HOME funds in an amount not to exceed $500,000, from the District 4 Housing Pilot Project, and the allocation of said funds to the MDHA Development Corporation for the development of Smathers Plaza, an Assisted Living Facility, is authorized. Section 2. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor {1}. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
