Emergency increase in Contract
Project #B6436
The purpose of this memorandum is to request your authorization for an increase in
the contract of Total Construction and Maintenance Corporation in the amount of
$40,000 to cover unanticipated additional Change Orders on the infrastructure
improvements under construction at Antonio Maceo Park.
This project was originally approved as an "Emergency," October 18, 2002. The
contract amount with Total Construction and Maintenance Corporation was $119,000
plus $11,000 contingency. In December 2002, by another Emergency Finding, the
contract was increased $70,000 to provide water, sanitary sewer and electric utility
service for a new prefabricated restroom building. This work also included a
concrete building foundation, handicap ramp and walkways. This new request for an
additional $40,000 will cover additional improvements to the parking lot, removal of
damaged sidewalks, repairs to the landscape sprinkler system in the park, and a
granite base for the new Antonio Maceo statue. The above increases were not
included in the original scope of work.
The construction of improvements at Antonio Maceo Park is ongoing. The total cost
to date including this increase is $240,000. This "Emergency" increase in the
contract will help fund completion of the project. Funding in the amount of $40,000 is
available from CIP No. 333114.
We are requesting your approval to authorize the contractor to proceed with the
additional work on an "Emergency" basis.
