HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-04-0434City of Miami Legislation Resolution: R-04-0434 City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com File Number: 04-00728 Final Action Date: 6/24/2004 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION RELATED TO THE "SALUTE TO OUR FLORIDA HEROES" TO BE HELD AT BAYFRONT PARK ON JULY 10, 2004; AUTHORIZING THE PROVISION OF IN -KIND SERVICES, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $35,000, FROM THE DEPARTMENTS OF POLICE, FIRE -RESCUE, AND SOLID WASTE; ALLOCATING FUNDS FROM ACCOUNT NO. 0010000.921002.6.289; CONDITIONING SAID AUTHORIZATIONS UPON THE ORGANIZER: (1) OBTAINING ALL PERMITS REQUIRED BY LAW; (2) PAYING FOR ALL OTHER NECESSARY COSTS WITH SAID EVENT; (3) OBTAINING INSURANCE TO PROTECT THE CITY IN THE AMOUNT AS PRESCRIBED BY THE CITY MANAGER; AND (4) COMPLYING WITH ALL CONDITIONS AND LIMITATIONS AS MY BE PRESCRIBED BY THE CITY MANAGER. WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") and Miami -Dade County ("County") have joined in a collaborative effort to honor the local men and women of our Armed Forces, who have served and will continue to serve our country abroad; and WHEREAS, recently the Florida National Guard was called into active duty for the first time since the Vietnam War; and WHEREAS, many of the reserve units recently called into active duty are comprised of hard-working South Florida residents, whom many are residents of the City; and WHEREAS, the City and the County have scheduled the "Salute to Our Florida Heroes" celebration on July 10, 2004 at Bayfront Park and have created a joint "Planning Committee" to ensure the event's success; and WHEREAS, the residents of Miami will be given a unique opportunity to thank the men and women who served their country during the military operation in Iraq and Afghanistan, in conjunction with specified talent performing during the event; and WHEREAS, the Governor of the State of Florida and other national leaders are expected to attend the various celebrations throughout the state honoring our local men and women of the Armed Forces; and WHEREAS, four other cities in Florida, including Tampa, Panama City, Orlando and Jacksonville will be hosting "Salute to Our Florida Heroes" celebrations throughout the summer months; and WHEREAS, the County has committed $75,000 in support of this event; and WHEREAS, the Bayfront Management Trust has committed $30,000, Miami Sports and Exhibition Authority has committed $20,000 in support, the office of the Mayor has committed $10,000 City of Miami Page 1 of 2 File Id: 04-00728 (Version: 1) Printed On: 9/20/2016 File Number: 04-00728 Enactment Number: R-04-0434 in support, and Off -Street Parking has committed $10,000 (valued at $25,000) in support of this event; and WHEREAS, in -kind services for the Department of Police at an amount of $21,174, the Department of Fire -Rescue at an amount of $5,173.09, the Department of Solid Waste at an amount of $3,654 and $5,000 for other are requested; and WHEREAS, this Commission desires to provide support for the July 10, 2004 "Salute to Our Florida Heroes" event at Bayfront Park; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The provision of in -kind services, in an amount not to exceed $35,000, from the Departments of Police, Fire -Rescue and Solid Waste is authorized for the "Salute to Our Heroes" event to be held at Bayfront Park on July 10, 2004, with funds allocated from Account No. 0010000.921002.6.289. Section 3. The herein authorizations are conditioned upon the organizers: (1) obtaining all permits required by law; (2) paying for all other necessary costs of City services and applicable fees associated with said event; (3) obtaining insurance to protect the City in the amount as prescribed by the City Manager; and (4) complying with all conditions and limitations as may be prescribed by the City Manager. Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor.{1} Footnotes: {1} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
