HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-04-0385City of Miami Legislation Resolution: R-04-0385 City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com File Number: 04-00639 Final Action Date: 6/10/2004 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION AMENDING RESOLUTION NO. 04-0305, WHICH ESTABLISHED A SELECTION ADVISORY COMMITTEE TO REVIEW AND RECOMMEND CANDIDATES FOR THE POSITION OF CITY ATTORNEY, BY CHANGING THE REQUIRED PUBLIC ADVERTISING PERIOD FROM 45 DAYS, TO APPROXIMATELY 30 DAYS. WHEREAS, the position of City Attorney will become vacant and it is now in order for the City Commission to appoint a new permanent City Attorney; and WHEREAS, the City Commission adopted, on May 6, 2004, Resolution No. 04-0305 establishing a City Attorney Selection Committee ("Committee") to review and recommend candidates for said position, as well as established procedural criteria and timelines for the Committee; and WHEREAS, the Committee reviewed and approved the public advertisement and gave directions on publication and frequency of such advertisements, among other things, during its meeting of June 1, 2004; and WHEREAS, the approved advertisement announcing the subject vacancy and inviting applications from qualified members of the Florida Bar was first published on June 3, 2004; and WHEREAS, the aforementioned series of public advertisements will appear in various publications for nearly one month prior to the cut-off date for acceptance of such applications; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. Section 2 of Resolution No. 04-0305, adopted by the City Commission on May 6, 2004, is amended as follows:{1} "Resolution No. 04-0305 Section 2. A six (6) member Select Advisory Committee ("Committee") is established to advertise the position of City Attorney for the City of Miami for /15 approximately 30 days, and conduct a review of applications for the position of City Attorney including personal interviews of the applicants. Said applications will be received by the Office of the City Clerk and Joel E. Maxwell will serve as Special Counsel to the Office of the City Clerk for said purpose. Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor.{2} Footnotes: {1 } Words/and or figures stricken through shall be deleted. Underscored words and/or figures shall be added. The remaining provisions are now in effect and remain unchanged. Asterisks indicate omitted and unchanged material. {2} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
