Thompson City Clerk Subject: Mayor's International Council References: May 27, 2004 Agenda Enclosures: The Mayor's International Council was created to (1) plan and implement the City's International Trade promotion policies for the purposes of stimulating commercial and residential development and expanding the City's tax base through the promotion of foreign trade and local investment in accordance with the bylaws adopted by the Council; (2) serve in an advisory capacity for the City of Miami Sister Cities Program to plan, implement, and oversee the City's international, professional, and technical educational and cultural exchanges, promotion and policies to create and stimulate friendly and meaningful relationships; and (3) coordinate protocol requirements for national and international events and dignitaries pursuant to the standard and practices adopted by the Council. This is a new board created by Ordinance 12386 on July 17, 2003 and amended by Ordinance 12520 on April 8, 2004. Nine appointments are needed at this time: • Commissioner Regalado is requesting the Commission At -Large to appoint Maria Dreyfus-Ulvert to replace Luis Vanegas. • Commissioner Teele has one nomination for pending vacant seat. • Mayor Diaz has seven (7) appointments pending. By copy of this memorandum, we are requesting that the Agenda Office place this issue on the May 27, 2004 Commission agenda.
