Imagine... • • A child dies of a simple infection because no antibiotics are available. • • A. young man screams as his physician has to perform an emergency appendectomy without anesthesia. • A little girl's cut becomes deadly because: the doctor did not have the needed sutures. • A newborn baby dies because her crib is a ditty sheet on a pallet on the ground. • A woman dies of asthma because a doctor can not get there for four days. • A man of immense ense wealth dies of a treatable beau auctck because there was no time to transport hint 3 1/2 hours away to another country. Death unnecessarily occurs di le to lack of resources, equipment and pharmaceuticals to diagnose and treat medical problems and a sanitary environment to ensure successful recuperation. tttf A SOLUTION The Rome Foundation belie..es that improving basic healthcare around the world will happen one village at a time, as individual volunteers and health care institutions save and change lives. Together we can make a difference in communities, societies, and third world countries around the world. TO MAKE IT HAPPEN .•. in Haiti The Rome Foundation supported hospital and medical clinics in Haiti depend upon: • generous gifts of money — $24 million dollars Phase I: $1 million dollars by January 29, 2000 to secure land and building (shell) for primary facility Phase II: $7 million dollars by January 2001 for clinic build - outs, equipment and pharmaceuticals Phase III: $ 16 million dollars by January 2002 for hospital build -out, equipment, and start-up costs. • volunteer time and talents (doctors, nurses, pharmacists, engineers, construction workers, administrators, etc.) • donations of new or used medical equipment, supplies, transportation, pharmaceuticals, etc. Each of these areas contributes to provide vital support to underwrite the costs of building and operatin 9 :.; and medical clinics in third world countries. The Rome Foundation believes that all people regardless of ethnicity, religion, color, oar nationality have the inalienable right to basic life sustaining healthcare.
