RECOMMENDATION
It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached Resolution
accepting the bids received pursuant to Invitation for Bids No. 03-04-001, dated January 14,
2004, from various vendors, as listed in Exhibit "A" attached hereto and made a part hereof, for
the procurement of medical supplies for the Department of Fire -Rescue, on an as -needed
contract basis, for two (2) years with the option to extend for two (2) additional one-year
periods. Allocating funds in the amount of $125,000 from the Operating Budget of the
Department of Fire -Rescue for Fiscal Year 2003-2004, as may be adjusted from time to time by
the City Commission in the Annual Appropriations/Capital Improvement Ordinance or as
otherwise adjusted as permitted by law.
BACKGROUND
The Department of Fire -Rescue needs to secure a contract with a reliable provider, on an as -
needed contract basis, for the acquisition of medical supplies. The requested items are
essential in providing efficient patient care and are used by the Fire -Rescue emergency
response personnel in the treatment of the sick and injured. To support the Department's day-
to-day operations, the Department of Fire -Rescue must maintain and replenish a large
inventory of emergency medical supplies on a timely, as' needed -basis. Current requirements
consist of first -aid bandages, tape, dressings, basic life support supplies, advanced life support
supplies, EKG electrodes, oxygen masks and tubing which are routinely used by the emergency
teams in the course of their duties. For the safety and well being of the citizens and visitors of
the City of Miami, it is imperative that the Department of Fire -Rescue is fully equipped by
assuring that a reliable source for medical supplies is secured.
The Department of Fire -Rescue has analyzed the bids received pursuant to Bid No. 03-04-001.
All vendors, as listed in "Exhibit A", were deemed responsive, responsible and met bid
specifications. Awards shall be made based upon the lowest price bid listed for Part A items,
and the highest percentage discount off of current manufacturer's price list/catalog for a specific
item listed in Part B.
