Resolution Accepting the
Bid for Radio Tower
Replacement -
Bid No. 02-03-187
RECOMMENDATION:
It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached Resolution
accepting the bid of Sabre Communications Corporation, a Non-Local/Non-Minority
vendor, located at 2101 Murray Street, Sioux City, IA 51111, for the removal of an
existing guyed tower, purchase and delivery of one (1) new 125' self-supporting radio
tower with ice bridge, including construction and antenna installations per bid
specifications, to be located at Fire Station 11, for the Department of General Services
Administration, in an amount not to exceed $98,963. Funds are available from the Capital
Improvement Project No. 311052,429401.6.840, B-74202.
BACKGROUND:
As a result of the 800 Mhz Trunked Radio and Microwave System Upgrade project,
engineering reports indicated that the current twenty (20) year old guyed tower located at
Fire Station 11, 5920 W. Flagler Street, is not capable of supporting the new upgraded
equipment load. The Department of General Services Administration needs to replace the
guyed tower with a free standing (self-supporting) structure of the same height that meets
the new South Florida Building Code.
The Department of General Services Administration, Communications Division, has
analyzed the bids received pursuant to Bid No. 02-03-187. Seventeen (17) Invitations for
Bid were mailed and four (4) responses were received. The bid from Sabre
Communications Corporation was deemed the lowest most responsible and responsive
bidder meeting specifications, and is therefore recommended for the award.
