The City Commission adopted, on first reading, revisions to sections of the Code of the City of Miami that may impact demonstrations and other events where First Amendment principles apply. The changes in Chapter 54, {File Number 04-00212}, relate to use and permits for public right of ways and the changes in Chapter 38, {File Number 04-00213}, relate to use and permits for city parks. After first reading, an advertised meeting seeking public input regarding the changes proposed was held at 5:00 PM at City Hall on March 16, 2004. In addition to the advertisement, representatives of various interested groups were notified of the time and location of the meeting. A representative from the ACLU was present along with department representatives. After taking input and after discussion, some minor language adjustments and changes were made.
