Re: FPL Overhead & Underground Easement Request
Vicinity of "Jose Marti" Park SW 3rd Ave between SW 5th and 6t" St
Dear Ms. Billberry:
Per our meeting of February 11, 2003, FPL is hereby requesting from the City of Miami an
easement for the installation of overhead and underground facilities consisting of three poles and
one manhole. These facilities are to be located on City property in the vicinity of SW 3rd Avenue
between SW 5th and 6th Streets and more particularly described on the attached easement
documents.
The reason for the easement request is due to the Miami River Dredging Project under the
direction of the U.S. Corps of Engineers ("COE"). The COE has requested that our existing
subaqueous river crossings be removed, as they do not meet the new depth criteria for the
upcoming Miami River dredging.
FPL has begun this process via a directional bore crossing under the Miami River at 1-95. The
next phase of the project extends southbound along SW 3`d Ave from SW 41h St to SW 8th St; it
requires the relocation of three existing poles and the installation of a new manhole and duct
system. Typically, this installation would have been located within public the right-of-way under
a permit from the City. However, due to the congestion of existing underground utilities within
the right-of-way along SW 3rd Ave., it is not impossible for FPL to locate its facilities in the said
right-of-way. Therefore, FPL needs to locate its facilities in an easement on the City's property.
The total combined square footage of the easement is 204.6 feet. FPL is prepared to compensate
the City of Miami the amount of $3,000 for the easement rights. Attached for your review and
execution on behalf of the City of Miami is the FPL utility easement we are seeking. As time is
of the essence, please forward your response affirming whether or not you are in agreement with
our request.
We respectfully request the City of Miami's cooperation in this matter, if you have any questions
or require that we meet to further discuss this issue, please contact me at (305) 552-3914.
Sincerely,
L A. Pere
