BACKGROUND The Department of Conferences, Conventions & Public Facilities is actively pursuing this convention and requests this allocation at this time in order to submit a bid to host this prestigious convention in Miami. The American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) is a nonprofit music -education organization whose central purpose is to promote excellence in choral music through performance, composition, publication, research, and teaching. ACDA's membership consists of approximately 18,000 choral directors who represent more than one million singers across the United States. The ACDA's national convention is held every other year and draws over 10,000 delegates from around the country. The City has been working with the Greater Miami Convention & Visitor's Bureau (GMCVB), downtown hotels, performing arts center, and Miami Dade County to secure this prestigious event for our community. The estimated economic impact is $11,379,016 with approximately 75% to be spent in downtown Miami. The ACDA is planning to utilize at least 2,500 hotel rooms in downtown at the Biscayne Bay Marriott, Doubletree Grand Bay, New Radisson Miami, Hyatt, Intercontinental, Sheraton, and Holiday Inn. The primary events will take place in the new performing arts center; however, the exhibits will be in the Miami Beach Convention Center. Because there are over 10,000 delegates and the performances only seat 2,000 they will need a very elaborate transportation plan to shuttle delegates to and from the various hotels, performances, and convention center. To assist with the cost for transportation and other logistical issues, the ACDA is requiring the host City to bid at least $100,000 to secure the event. The Miami Dade County TDC has committed $25,000, the downtown hotel task force $25,000 and the GMCVB $10,000 in addition to support staff, convention services, and other in -kind assistance.
