Commission FROM : .Joe 'rri la City Ma ager JAk ' zu04 DATE : FILE : Ordinance accepting a FY'2004 SUBJECT : Surtax Grant of $1,000,000 from Miami -Dade County REFERENCES : City Commission Agenda January 22, 2004 ENCLOSURES: RECOMMENDATION: It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached Ordinance establishing a new Special Revenue Fund entitled: "FY'2004 Miami -Dade County Surtax Fund" to provide multi -family housing rehabilitation for properties with expiring contracts for Section 8 project based housing units, in order to increase availability of decent affordable homeownership and rental housing units, and appropriating $1,000,000 to said fund; further authorizing the City Manager to accept a grant from Miami -Dade County and to execute the necessary documents, in a form acceptable to the City Attorney, to implement acceptance of said grant; containing a repealer provision and a severability clause. BACKGROUND: On October 20, 2003, the Miami -Dade Office of Community and Economic Development (OCED) announced that the City of Miami would be recommended for an allocation of $1,000,000 in FY'2004 Surtax funds as part of the Miami -Dade County FY'2004 Action Plan. It is recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached Ordinance establishing a new Special Revenue Fund entitled: "FY'2004 Miami -Dade County Surtax Fund" to provide multi- family housing rehabilitation for properties with expiring contracts for Section 8 project based housing units, in order to increase availability of decent affordable homeownership and rental housing units, and appropriating $1,000,000 to said fund; further authorizing the City Manager to accept a grant from Miami -Dade County and to execute the necessary documents, in a form acceptable to the City Attorney, to implement acceptance of said grant; containing a repealer provision and a severability clause. The proposed Ordinance does not have a budgetary impact on the General Fund. MThBGR�
