The Commission on the Status of Women was created to serve in an advisory capacity to the City
Commission, including advising on any possible barrier which may impede the participation of women in
City sponsored programs and activities; to work toward legislation granting women equality before the law;
to inspire in women the desire for self-improvement and pride of being, regardless of age, marital status, race,
color or creed; to seek for every woman the opportunities equal to her potential and responsibility; to seek
opportunities for and to encourage the active involvement of women in matters pertaining to community
progress; to encourage capable women in roles of leadership.
Three appointments are needed at this time:
• Commissioner Winton has one nomination for seat currently held by Lucie Tondreau,
whose term expired on November 16, 2003 and who has exceeded the number of absences
allowed per City Code.*
• Vice Chairman Sanchez has one nomination for seat currently held by: Lourdes
Blanco, whose term expired on November 16, 2003 and who has exceeded the number of
absences allowed per City Code.*
• Chairman Teele has one nomination for vacant seat created because Shashi Jagadish
resigned.
For your convenience, we are including a copy of the current membership of said board. By copy
of this memorandum, we are requesting the Agenda Office place this issue on the February 12, 2004
Commission agenda. *This issue was deferred from the November 13, 2003 and the January 8,
2004 Commission meetings.
