A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION AUTHORIZING THE
CONTINUED FINANCING OF PROTRACTED, COMPLEX INVESTIGATIONS
FOR THE DEPARTMENT OF POLICE, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED
$350,000, ALLOCATING FUNDS FROM THE LAW ENFORCEMENT TRUST
FUND, PROJECT NO. 690001, SUCH EXPENDITURES HAVING BEEN
APPROVED BY THE CHIEF OF POLICE AS COMPLYING WITH FLORIDA
STATUTES, CHAPTER 932.7055, AS AMENDED.
WHEREAS, Florida Statutes, Chapter 932.7055, as amended, authorizes the use of Law
Enforcement Trust Fund monies to defray the costs of protracted and/or complex investigations
and to provide law enforcement with additional technical equipment and expertise; and
WHEREAS, the need exists within the Department of Police to conduct protracted and/or
complex investigations which often require additional monies for such costs as, the
purchase/rental of equipment and supplies, payment of confidential informants, buy monies, and
other investigative support expenses; and
WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the community and the City of Miami to continue to fund
these expenditures through monies generated as a result of seizures authorized under the Florida
Contraband Forfeiture Act; and
WHEREAS, funds to cover these necessary and legitimate costs and expenditures have not
been included in the Department of Police's normal operating budget; and
WHEREAS, the Chief of Police has recommended adoption of this Resolution and has
determined that the expenditures proposed comply with Florida Statutes, Chapter 932.7055, as
amended;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI,
FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted
by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. The continued financing of protracted, complex investigations for the Department of
Police, is authorized, with funds allocated in the amount not to exceed $350,000, from the Law
Enforcement Trust Fund, Project No. 690001, such expenditures having been approved by the
Chief of Police as complying with Florida Statutes, Chapter 932.7055, as amended.
Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature

of the Mayor.{1}
Footnotes:
{1} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar
days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall
become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
