The Commission on the Status of Women was created to serve in an advisory capacity to the City
Commission, including advising on any possible barrier which may impede the participation of women in
City sponsored programs and activities; to work toward legislation granting women equality before the law;
to inspire in women the desire for self-improvement and pride of being, regardless of age, marital status, race,
color or creed; to seek for every woman the opportunities equal to her potential and responsibility; to seek
opportunities for and to encourage the active involvement of women in matters pertaining to community
progress; to encourage capable women in roles of leadership.
Five members' terms expired on or before November 16, 2003:
• Vice Chairman Teele has one nomination for seat currently held by Karen Cartright,
who has exceeded the number of absences allowed per City Code.
• Chairman Winton has one nomination for seat currently held by Lucie Tondreau, who
has exceeded the number of absences allowed per City Code.
• Commissioner Sanchez has two nominations for seat currently held by:
o Lourdes Blanco, who has exceeded the number of absences allowed per City
Code;
o Eunicie Soto, who has exceeded the number of absences allowed per City Code.
• Mayor Diaz has one appointment for seat currently held by Karen Andre, who has
exceeded the number of absences allowed per City Code.
For your convenience, we are including a copy of the current membership of said board. By copy
of this memorandum, we are requesting the Agenda Office place this issue on the January 8, 2004
Commission agenda. This issue was deferred from the November 13, 2003 Commission meeting.
