Ltd. fired complaints during a recent commission hearing on everything from the project's scale, density and neighborhood incompatibility to blocked view corridors, traffic impact and the area's vulnerability to floods. After five hours of intense debate from neighbors, interspersed with calming speeches from Villa Magna developer Tibor Hollo's business partners and relatives in support of the project, Commis- sioner Johnny Winton led the commission in a favorable vote for the MUSP—with conditions. "I've heard 50-75 MUSPs since I've been elected," exclaimed a frustrated Winton. "But I have never sat through a hearing where a developer brought people who work for him to speak on his be- ha1f...I thought that was inappropriate! "I don't care about the height or the view corridors," he added, "views are not protected so `buyer beware' ...but I do think the densi- ty is a major issue. It makes the project unworkable." Though Winton pushed to have developers "go back into the community to come up with a better project," City Attorney Jorge Fernandez warned that under the city's zoning code, that would re- sult in the project's immediate approval, due to a lack of action on behalf of commissioners.
