HomeMy WebLinkAboutsubmittal - 2MESSAGE TO THE CITY OF MIAMI COMMISSION ON APPOINTMENT TO THE VACANT DISTRICT FIVE SEAT ON THE COMMISSION TO: City of Miami Commissioners, FROM: Arnold Mobley, 2270 N.W. 87th Street, Miami, Fl. 33147 The voters of the City of Miami, specifically those in District Five of the City of Miami, believe that in a perfect situation, it is preferred that you allow the voters of District Five to express their choice of a representative on the Commission for District Five through their voice at the polls. However, there are other important fiscal considerations involved. Such as the fact that the City is strapped for Cash to fund a special election especially since we have a general election due next year for this same seat when the term of Suspended Commissioner Teele finishes. Therefore, we strongly suggest that you consider the finances of the City of Miami in making your decision. SUBMITTED INTO TH PUBLIC RECORD FOI 1TEMD ON 9-on-or Unfortunately, we do have to find a citizen to replace suspended City Commissioner Arthur E. Teele, Jr. and It is extremely important, as you well know, that we have someone in this seat who is capable and knowledgeable of the City of Miami and the unique problems and situations that exist within district five. There are projects and programs needing to be started and some are already in progress that are critical to the financial health of the City of Miami and that of district five. We need a man or woman who is aware of these special considerations and their budgetary aspects as they relate to the City of Miami and especially of district five. I believe that person should be Mr. Charles Cutler. He has run for this same position before and is intimately knowledgeable about the City's business and the needs of District Five, because he lives in the District. There will be no learning curve with him because, as each of you knows, he has been a constant figure here in City Hall. He lives in District Five and we need someone who actually lives in the district and knows the problems and needs of the residents and not someone who only maintains a residence there as a secondary address. Mr. Cutler has lived in the district all of his life and knows the residents and their needs as well as their plight because he lives in their neighborhood and has been helping them manage their problems for years. Mr. Cutler is the kind of citizen we need on this commission, a man that has dedicated his life to helping others without asking for anything in return. In conclusion, I believe that this Commission should save the City from the expense of funding two elections for the same Commission seat that would be held within a short time of each other by appointing Mr. Cutler to fill this vacancy for the remainder of Suspended Commissioner Teele's term and to do this as soon as possible because the residents of District Five need immediate representation on this governing body.
