"This will be his first significant

The development may be dif-

ami -Dade County at being worth
more t 32.8 million, though the
building was assessed at only
$1,000. Today, the land is as-
sessed at $3.7 million, according
to Miami -Dade County property
records.
Gotham Partners told the shop-
keepers that they could stay until
the building was razed, but it never
was. They continued to occupy
the building untilnewevictionno-
tices went out in mid -October.
Salon Rik Rak relocated about
six months ago, and Giacomo and
Camera Capers have moved out
in the past few weeks.
Jacques Ardisson, who owns
iacomo Italian and sushi restau-
ant, said he left the site the day
efore Thanksgiving and moved
nto a storefront at 638 S. Miami
Ave., next to Tobacco Road res-
taurant and bar.
Camera Capers owner Karl
Luce said he left 1060 Brickell at
the end of last month. Mr. Luce,
a former employee who bought
the camera store in April, said he
was given a 15-day eviction no-
tice in mid -October and vacated
after he was served papers.
Two years ago, when Gotham
Partners bought the land, Mr. Luce
was evicted from an apartment in
an upper story of the small strip
mall, he said.
Mr. Luce said his store has
moved to Rivergate Plaza at 444
Brickell Ave., near Capital Grille
restaurant. His space won't be
ready for another month, he said,
so he is working out in a small
office space in the same building.
"We're barely staying in busi-
ness," said Mr. Luce. "We knew
that it was going to be sold. We
just wish we had more notice."
[gp apr 19/12/2003 15:30]
