HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-03-1222City of Miami Legislation Resolution: R-03-1222 City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com File Number: 03-0174 Final Action Date: 12/18/2003 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION AUTHORIZING THE ACQUISITION OF 41 EACH OF POWERHEART G3 AUTOMATED EXTERNAL DEFIBRILLATORS (AEDS), G3 CARRYING CASES, WALL MOUNT UNITS AND EXTENDED LIFE LITHIUM BATTERIES, 47 READY KITS AND 129 SETS OF ELECTRODES INCLUDING A FIVE-YEAR WARRANTY FROM CARDIAC SCIENCE, INC., FOR THE DEPARTMENT OF FIRE -RESCUE, UTILIZING EXISTING STATE OF FLORIDA SNAPS III CONTRACT NO. 4651951-4, EFFECTIVE THROUGH MAY 17, 2004, SUBJECT TO ANY EXTENSIONS OR REPLACEMENT CONTRACTS BY THE STATE OF FLORIDA, IN A TOTAL AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $91,779.33, ALLOCATING FUNDS FROM THE STATE OF FLORIDA EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES MATCHING GRANT M3004 AWARD (FY 2003), PROJECT NO. 110118, ACCOUNT CODE NO. 280212.6.840. WHEREAS, the Department of Fire -Rescue ("Fire -Rescue") requires the purchase of Powerheart G3 Automated External Defibrillators ("AED") and accessories, including a five-year warranty, necessary to implement Fire -Rescue's Public Access Defibrillation ("PAD") program; and WHEREAS, such equipment will allow Fire -Rescue to train City security guards, or easily assembled "Rapid Response Teams" composed of volunteer City of Miami ("City") employees to respond calls of "person -down;" and WHEREAS, said teams will be trained to give first aid CPR and administer defibrillation shocks in the shortest time possible; thereby, improving the outcomes of survival and recovery for victims of heart attacks, strokes, and other emergencies; and WHEREAS, having this device readily available throughout various City facilities, will help save lives; and WHEREAS, the City Manager and Fire Chief recommends the acquisition of forty-one (41) of each, Powerheart GE AEDs, G3 carrying cases, wall mount cases, and extended life lithium batteries, forty-seven (47) ready kits, and one hundred twenty-nine (129) set of electrodes, including a five-year warranty, from Cardiac Science, Inc., under the existing State of Florida SNAPS III Contract No. 4651951-4, effective through May 17, 2004, in a total amount not to exceed $91,779.33, be approved; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. Section 2. The acquisition of 41 each of Powerheart G3 AEDs, G3 carrying cases, wall mount units, and extended life lithium batteries, 47 ready kits, and 129 sets of electrodes including a five-year warranty from Cardiac Science, Inc., for the Department of Fire -Rescue, utilizing existing State of Florida SNAPS III Contract No. 4651951-4, effective through May 17, 2004, subject to any extensions or replacement contracts by the State of Florida, in a total amount not to exceed $91,779.33, is authorized, with funds allocated from the State of Florida Emergency Medical Services ("EMS") Matching Grant M3004 Award (FY 2003), Project No. 110118, Account Code No. 280212.6.840. Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor.{1 } Footnotes: {1} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
