HomeMy WebLinkAboutcover memoCITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA CA.14 INTER -OFFICE MEMORANDUM TO : The Honorable Mayor Meprs of the City Commis ion FROM : DATE : DEC 2 2003 FILE : SUBJECT : Recommendation for Award of RFP #02-03-158 in regards to Network Backbone Equipment Maintenance REFERENCES: Services Jo Ar ola C ief dministrator/City Manager ENCLOSURES: RECOMMENDATION It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached resolution authorizing the City to negotiate and execute a contract with Unisys Corporation, located at 5201 Blue Lagoon Drive Suite 340, Miami Fi 33126 for an initial period of three (3) years, with the option to extend for two (2) additional one (1) year periods, at an estimated annual cost not to exceed $400,000. Funds are available from the Department of Information Technology account code 001000.460101.6.670 and from the operating budgets or capital improvement budgets of various city departments, offices or other entities requiring the budgetary approval of funds to utilize these services from individual departmental accounts prior to usage. BACKGROUND The City of Miami issued RFP 02-03-158 to seek proposals from qualified and experienced firms to provide Network Backbone Equipment Maintenance Services for the Network Infrastructure as the existing contract was due to expire January, 2004. In excess of eighteen (18) solicitations were mailed and the RFP was made available to download via the Internet. A total of three (3) responsive and responsible Proposals were received and evaluated by an Evaluation Committee. The Committee met and recommended Unisys Corporation as its top - ranked firm, and BellSouth Business Systems as the second -ranked firm. The Committee did not recommend the firm ranked third. The City will terminate the current contract, procured via a previous RFP process, by January 31, 2004, and initiate a new contract pursuant to RFP 02-03-158 effective on or about February 1, 2004. This contract will cover services to maintain all the network backbone equipment such as switches, routers, modems, and hubs. This equipment is the core of the City's data network and computer servic . rely on it. JAI W /MS
