Gusman Center - Allocation of
Homeland Defense Bond Funds
City Commission Meeting —

RECOMMENDATION:
It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached Resolution
allocating funds in the amount of $500,000 from Homeland Defense Neighborhood
Improvement Bond Funds, Historic Preservation Initiative, Project No. 327001, for
restoration and rehabilitation activities at Gusman Center for the Performing Arts by the
Department of Off -Street Parking.
BACKGROUND:
The Department of Off -Street Parking has completed a significant portion of the restoration
of Gusman Center for the Performing Arts, but needs additional funds for work including
historic paint and plaster restoration, theatrical rigging and lighting systems, theatrical sound
system, communications system, concession counters, carpet, theater seating, railings and
ADA accessibility work, construction contingency and architectural/engineering and specialty
consultant fees and expenses.
At its meeting of September 30, 2003, the Bond Oversight Board recommended that $500,000
from the Homeland Defense Neighborhood Improvement Bond Funds, Historic Preservation
Initiative, Project No. 327001, be allocated for this project.
FISCAL IMPACT:
This item allocates $500,000 from Homeland Defense Neighborhood Improvement Bond
funds.
