HomeMy WebLinkAboutAgenda Item Cover PageAGENDA ITEM COVER PAGE File ID: #15681 Resolution Sponsored by: Commissioner Christine Kind A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO ALLOW CITY OF MIAMI EMPLOYEES WHO REPORT ILLEGAL DUMPING IN THE CITY OF MIAMI, WHICH ARE OBSERVED DURING NON -WORK HOURS, TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THE ILLEGAL DUMPING REWARD PROGRAM City of Miami Legislation Resolution Enactment Number: R-24-0107 City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com File Number: 15681 Final Action Date:3/14/2024 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO ALLOW CITY OF MIAMI EMPLOYEES WHO REPORT ILLEGAL DUMPING IN THE CITY OF MIAMI, WHICH ARE OBSERVED DURING NON -WORK HOURS, TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THE ILLEGAL DUMPING REWARD PROGRAM WHEREAS, the City of Miami (City") provides excellent sanitation services for its residents; and WHEREAS, residential properties receive two (2) pick-ups of binned garbage, one (1) pick-up of recycling, and one (1) pick-up of bulky trash each week from the Department of Solid Waste ("Solid Waste"); and WHEREAS, other areas in Miami -Dade County, including unincorporated Miami -Dade County, do not provide such a high level of service to their residents, and WHEREAS, the City also picks up dumped trash and garbage left along streets, alleyways, and in empty lots on a regular basis to keep our City clean; and WHEREAS, because the City's services are effective and reliable, contractors, lawn services, multi -unit residential owners and tenants, and the like who are working or living in the City and even those who are outside the City limits have used City streets as their dumping ground rather than through the approved methods; and WHEREAS, on June 10, 2021, the City Commission passed Resolution R-21-0242 which provided for a $500.00 reward for person(s) who report illegal dumping in the City of Miami; and WHEREAS, currently, City employees who reports illegal dumping they observed while not at work are not eligible for this reward; and WHEREAS, a City employee who during their off hours observes illegal dumping and reports the activity should be eligible for the reward as long as they meet all other requirements of the program; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The Miami City Commission hereby directs the City Manager to allow City of Miami employees who report illegal dumping during their non -working hours to be eligible to collect monies from the Illegal Dumping Reward Program so long as all other requirements of the program are met. Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption. APPROVED AS TO FORM AND CORRECTNESS: Pursuant to the resolution, this item became effective immediately upon adoption by the Commission.
