Thompson City Clerk Date: October 17, 2003 Subject: Commission on the Status of Women References: November 13, 2003 Agenda Enclosures: List of members The Commission on the Status of Women was created to serve in an advisory capacity to the City Commission, including advising on any possible barrier which may impede the participation of women in City sponsored programs and activities; to work toward legislation granting women equality before the law; to inspire in women the desire for self-improvement and pride of being, regardless of age, marital status, race, color or creed; to seek for every woman the opportunities equal to her potential and responsibility; to seek opportunities for and to encourage the active involvement of women in matters pertaining to community progress; to encourage capable women in roles of leadership. All eleven members' terms expire on November 16, 2003: • Commissioner Regalado has two nominations for seats currently held by: o Josefina Sanchez-Pando has served as a member since September 28, 1995. Pursuant to Code Sec. 2-885(b), no board member shall serve more than eight consecutive years on any one board. This requirement may be waived by a unanimous vote of the members of the City Commission. o Allyson Warren • Commissioner Gonzalez has two nominations for seats currently held by: o Pauline Ramos has served as a member since June 11, 1992. Pursuant to Code Sec. 2-885(b), no board member shall serve more than eight consecutive years on any one board. This requirement may be waived by a unanimous vote of the members of the City Commission. o Constance Johnson • Vice Chairman Teele has two nominations for seats currently held by: o Shashi Jagadish o Karen Cartright, who has exceeded the number of absences allowed per City Code • Chairman Winton has two nominations for seats currently held by: o Lucie Tondreau, who has exceeded the number of absences allowed per City Code o Anita Mc Gruder • Commissioner Sanchez has two nominations for seat currently held by: o Lourdes Blanco o Eunicie Soto, who has exceeded the number of absences allowed per City Code • Mayor Diaz has one appointment for seat currently held by Karen Andre, who has exceeded the number of absences allowed per City Code. For your convenience, we are including a copy of the current membership of said board. By copy of this memorandum, we are requesting the Agenda Office place this issue on the November 13, 2003 Commission agenda.
