Resolution
RECOMMENDATION:
The Department of Planning and Zoning recommends that the City Commission adopt the attached
Resolution requesting from the Florida Department of Transportation:
• Reduction in travel lanes from three to two lanes in each direction between the limits of NE 37th
Street and NE 54th Street.
• Land width reduction from 10.5 feet to 10.0 feet between the limits of 67th Street to NW 87`h
Street.
All of which are in accordance with the Urban Streets Policy TR-1.4.4.
BACKGROUND:
The Miami Neighborhood Comprehensive Plan, Policy No. TR-1.4.4, provides that the City of
Miami, in cooperation with the Florida Department of Transportation, will seek to reduce speeds
and provide wide sidewalks, medians, roundabouts, landscaping, attractive lighting, creative and
informative signage, on -street parking, and other design features and amenities as appropriate.

A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION APPROVING THE
ADMINISTRATION'S REQUEST TO THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF
TRANSPORTATION THAT THE TRAVEL LANES BE REDUCED FROM
THREE TO TWO LANES IN EACH DIRECTION BETWEEN THE LIMITS
OF NORTHEAST 37TH STREET AND NORTHEAST 54TH STREETS,
AND THAT THE LANE WIDTH BE REDUCED FROM 10.5 FEET TO 10.0
FEET BETWEEN THE LIMITS OF NORTHEAST 67TH STREET TO
NORTHEAST 87TH STREET, MIAMI, FLORIDA, IN ACCORDANCE
WITH THE URBAN STREETS POLICY TR-1.4.4.
WHEREAS, the Miami Comprehensive Neighborhood Plan, Policy No.
TR-1.4.4, provides that the City of Miami ("City") in cooperation with the Florida
Department of Transportation ("FDOT"), will seek to reduce speeds and provide wide
sidewalks, medians, roundabouts, landscaping, attractive lighting, creative and
informative signage, on -street parking, and other design features and amenities as
appropriate; and
WHEREAS, FDOT, owner of Biscayne Boulevard, has agreed to the
modified design standards proposed by the City, including reducing the travel lanes
from three to two in each direction between the limits of Northeast 37th Street and
Northeast 54th Street, and reducing the lane width reduction from 10.5 feet to 10.0
feet between the limits of Northeast 67th Street to Northeast 87th Street, Miami,
Florida, in accordance with the intent of the Urban Streets Policy TR-1.4.4;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to
this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this
Section.
Section 2. The administration's request to FDOT that the travel
lanes be reduced from three to two lanes in each direction between the limits of
Northeast 37th Street and Northeast 54th Street, Miami, Florida, and that the lane
width be reduced from 10.5 feet to 10.0 feet between the limits of Northeast 67th
Street to Northeast 87th Street, Miami, Florida, in accordance with the Urban Streets
Policy TR-1.4.4, is approved.
Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective immediately
upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor. {1}
